Cool Anti-virus software

I've had enoug of NAV now, and McAfee ain't much better. What else is there? Any good free ones? (Not AVG, seems to be too many issues)

IMHO you get as good as you pay for with AV software, hence freebies tend not to offer the protection that you get when you pay for something like Norton/ Sophos/ McAfee.

I agree with what you say about Norton though - it's a royal PITA!

I've been running McAfee (the pay to use version) for about 6 months now, before that, Spohos for about 4 years and I'm happy with it. It's nowhere near as intrusive as Norton.

I find AVG fine, I re-installed after using the McAfee for their free trial period which got bundled with my laptop and it seemed ok if a little slow.

Symantec Client Security, Corperate Edition. Its miles better than the usual retail version. Contains AV and Firewall.

You don't even know it's there, unlike the usual retail versions that drag your system down to a grinding halt!

No yearly subscription is required for the updates, you just need to know where to find it

Send me a PM if your interested

I second that. The new version 6 (free update to version 5 users) is superb.

I agree that NOD32 is the best paid-for service. Most of the people I know in the IT business use it as well. Best free one is Avast!, but it's still a way befhind the best paid-for AVs.

Agree with that. Would touch the retail version but the corporate is pretty good.

Having said that, never had a problem with AVG when I was running that....for a few years.

Avast was good but seemed very slow and increased boot times (desktop loading)
