Default Recommended TFT Monitors for PC?

I'm looking for a 19" TFT monitor to replace my 21" CRT.

I've got a budget of up to £300 but would rather spend less.

It'll mainly be used for work but will occasionally be used for gaming so a <8ms response time is preferred.

I've been looking at the Samsung SM913N OR Samsung Syncmaster 930BF - both look like good units with good reviews and quick response times. And well within budget

Can anyone recommend any others to be looking at?

Thanks

Yes you will be hard pushed to improve on the A-listed Viewsonic! PC-Pro don't give out those awards lightly.

Acer 19" Widescreen
8ms
£174.99

Absolute steal:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...378217-0817258

The Samsung 930 is also a cracker (4ms) but a bit pricier around the £260 mark:

I wouldnt touch the 930BF personally, I have one sat here waiting to go back to Ebuyer.

Bought it based on the reviews on the eBuyer site, but wasn't impressed with it at all. To start with, its way too bright and even on the bottom brightness setting it burns your eyes out.

Colours are way off, but after 30 minutes I got the screen setup nearly as good as my 19" Iiyama CRT, but then came the big downer for me - the screen is much darker at the top than the bottom, so for me it was a nightmare as I spend 8 hours a day doing graphics work.

It may be good for gming/DVD's but for work its too harsh - shame as it looked superb

Read some reviews on the web about it or at trustedreviews and they will echo my comments.

I'm on the look out again now, but want to test some in the flesh first.

thanks - its good to hear a review from a 'person' rather than a faceless reviewer on the net

The £174.99 one seems like a good deal. Only got Analogue input mind but i've never been convinced that DVI is that much better at normal resolutions.

Plenty to choose from now

I've got an Acer one - from ebuyer.

19" with built in speakers (that aren't to bad for TFT speakers)

It's got DVI and VGA connectors and (I think) 4ms response.

I'll try and find model number

Oh yeah, says in big type on the top - AL1922

Is the Samsung 930BF really that bad? Most of the reviews seem very good.

Seems a bit strange. I've just bought myself a Samsung 214T (21.3" 8ms), and am really pleased with the quality of the display. Not too bright, colours seem to be spot on, very crisp, and works really well in games.

Does the 930 not come with the monitor colour tuning software that the 214T comes with (not that I've had to use it - it looked great out of the box)?

It comes with all that software stuff, MagicBright, MagicTune the whole lot, but the image quality (even with DVi) was nowhere near my Iiyama CRT.

The brightness was an issue when browsing as white backgrounds nearly burnt your eyes, fonts were either blurred or too sharp, but it was the colour difference from top to bottom that was the worse thing for me as a work monitor.

Its really a gaming monitor, with the 4ms response and the look/style of it.

Depends where you read the reviews - I based my buying decision on all the positive reviews on eBuyer, but when I received the monitor and wasnt keen, I did my own searching on Google and the reviews were mixed (I know, but I was in a ruch ot order everything before Xmas), with a few mentioning the gradient effect from top to bottom and the brightness.

I also then added a negative to eBuyer to try and balance it up, and as yet it hasn't appeared on the site after 2 weeks - maybe eBuyer dont add neg reviews to their top selling products?????

Possibly, as in general it gets decent reviews.

I'm going to try some in the flesh this time before buying.

I'd like to try some in the flesh too, but where do you go to do that? PC World don't have much of a range on display, and I can't think of anywhere else.

I am wanting to build a dual 19" monitor setup, so obviously the quality of those monitors is going to be very important.

What to do.....?

I've got a sony X-Black. Very happy with it, but still I haven't found a TFT that compete with the £100 Daywoo CRTs that work have.

Samsung 4ms screen with DVI has got very good reviews for gaming - circa 240 quid... (a few very happy mates with these)

Viewsonice VP930 (8ms) is very good (a few mates have em), I've got the old 8ms VP191s, again good for gaming - although colours may not be quite up to speed for gfx work (like DW does).
