How do I open a file that WIndows thinks is a threat & wont open ?
I need to open a file that I know is OK, but Windows (XP) wont let me, says it thinks its a harmfull file & has blocked opening it.
I have tried right clicking on it / properties / then trying to tick a box or something to remove the security but no joy.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Julian.

into control panel and take off the firewall assuming service pack2 installed
if you use this as your internet firewall make sure you are not connected to the net when you do this
as long as you are sure that its not harmful

I take it you are running service pack 2 (as they introduced safety features to stop you even accessing zip, exe, bat, etc. files. Which email client are you using?
If outlook express, look here

So after i have taken off the firewall & loaded the file I can re-activate the firewall by going back into control panel?
I have Norton Antivirus that contains a firewall too, so by the looks of it I have 2 running at the same time (Windows one & Norton)
Thanks
Ro.

Its Norton Internet Security Suite 2005 or something like that, so I will probably take off the Windows one & just use the Norton one.
Its nice to have extra protection, but Windows firewall its proving a pain and its not needed so will remove it.
Thanks for all the help guys

Oops, I'll leave you in mike's capable hands, he appears to be able to not misread posts like me as for some bizarre reason I thought you were trying to access an attachment in an email
