It's a windows / Hardware issue.

Check for the latest MOBO BIOS.

Update Drivers for IDE.

wasnt there something about W2K not seeing extra large HDs or was that just m/boards'n'bios'? Does the bios detect the full 250Gb? you had to manually enter it in, extended bootscan or somethink or was that just old skool stuff??

What service pack is your Win2K. I believe that support for drives over 130GB was added into Service Pack 3....

SYMPTOMS
Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and earlier versions of Windows 2000 do not support 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) as defined in the ATA/ATAPI 6.0 specification.

In other words install Service pack 3 or 4 and then windows will see your Hard Disk.

ah so thats right then the m/b bios also cant see larger than that 136Gb limit. m/b bios needs upgrading assuming it can take it. What is the m/board?

Control Panel > admin tools > computer management then click on disk administrator and it should show up in there.
