What laptop to blow money on?
Looking to buy a laptop. Want it for mainly MS Office, surfing and the odd game in my, ahem, breaks at work...
What's the lark with Pentium M over Celeron over Centrino over AMD etc? Other than that I'm happy to use my desktop PC experience, but it just seems hard to compare laptops particularly when I've never bought one before.
Could probably spend £1200-£1600 if need be. No point in buying an average one when I can waste more money is there?!

Dell Inspiron 9300... 17" LCD and within your price range. Got one for our MD's PA recently and its the dogs doodahs. Make sure you get the 1920x1200 high res screen as theres 2 options. The higher spec one costs a bit more (in your range) but boy is it worth it.

For £1600 you get an awful lot these days, I'll check with the suppliers later this avo and see if there's any special offers on.
What size are you looking for? 17" Widescreen is great ... but not if you've got to lug it around all day.
Drop me a PM if you're interested.
Rich.

What about a $100 laptop that you can wind-up to power it ?

think of all the liberal green-peace / save-the-world / eco-friendly / hippy-chicks you could pull by popping open this puppy open on the tube ?
come to think of it, those types of women are typically carpet munchers.

Pentium M is an impressive little chip, a 1.6GHz Pentium M is about as fast as a P4 2.8GHz and uses far less power in doing so.
Centrino is an intel marketing thing, basically Centrino == Your laptop must contain a Pentium M, a certain intel chipset and this intel wireless adaptor otherwise you are not allowed to call it a Centrino.. BTW, we're spending a ****load promoting Centrino and people who haven't researched what it is are going to go asking for it, so buy our CPU, chipset and wireless adaptor or you'll have difficulty selling your product.
If you're going for an AMD based laptop, go for the Turion if possible rather than the Athlon 64, unless you want to fry your nads. The Turion is the low power version.
Have a look at the current range of Acer laptops. They do some nice ones. I just wish that their top-end Ferrari range wasn't in that horrible gay red that prevented me from getting it past my boss.
