Default Wireless LAN help

Been roped into sorting out a mates wireless network.
Piece of p1ss I thought, mine was anyhow.
Took my laytop round with wireless, setup his router, put the PCI card in his PC.
My laptop works and can access the internet and can log into the router fine.
But his PC just refuses to do either. Curiously email works but IE won't load any web pages, not even the router (http://192.168.0.1)

I've uninstalled his previous dialup and BT broadband stuff (he's just changed to NTL).
I'm at a loss now. Can't understand why my laptop works but his PC doesn't, even when it's set to exactly the same settings as my laptop (even tried same IP address with my laptop switched off) but no joy.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
Both Router and PCI card are Dlink 54g stuff. Cable modem is whatever comes with NTL.

Check the settings within IE. Is it trying to use a proxy or dial up? Try disabling all adapters except the wireless one and see if that works. Make sure his DHCP settings are correct aswell.

From a command prompt check the IP settings with IPCONFIG.

Report back for more ideas

I'd be inclined to set the DNS servers the same on both machines!

It could be a case of the e-mail looksups being cached.

If that fails, run this from a run box:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

(/edt which will reset the TCP/IP stack)

I doubt it'll be a firewall issue on the PC's as you are going through a router and not internet connection sharing.

(make sure internet connection sharing is disabled. . . )

Sometimes u have to remove the app as well as disabling it, as some of these software apps block LAN traffic by default over netbios.

Told him he needs to reformat it
He put his old BT usb modem on (contract ends tomorrow) and it worked first time after he ran the install disk.
To be honest his machine can do with a reinstall, he's running XP from a 4Gb C:\ Drive yet has a 120Gb as his "data and storage" hard drive. His C:\ drive has 400Mb free.
