Depends on what you get. If you get a cable modem connection then NTL (or similar) will run a piece of coax from the street to your chosen termination point. The coax plugs directly into a cable modem and this will normally have both USB and Ethernet ports for connection to a PC.

If you get ADSL, this will be presented via your phone line with a termination box and then into an ADSL modem or router. Again, USB and Ethernet ports would be available.

I would assume that your wireless modem would be for a dial connection and could not be used with the broadband setup.

What you would ideally need to get would be a wireless LAN hub and connect the cable / adsl router to the wireless LAN hub using the uplink port or a crossed Ethernet cable.

Cheers
Chris

Question

What is installed in your house to give you access to a braodband connection?

I use freeserve and they are offering broadband connection.

The reason I ask is that I use a Buffalo Wireless Modem (so I can can walk round the house with the laptop connected to the internet, ie, no wires), but this obviously plugs into a standard phone socket.

Will I be able to use this with a broadband connection, or will I need a different version that plugs into a braodband socket? (in which case, what is a braodband socket?)

Cheers
