Default Norton Internet Security Suite

Guy's,

I have a P4 2.6 pc at home running Win2k (latest SP) and NIS connected to the internet via BT Yahoo 2Mb Broadband.

A short while ago I noticed that I would boot up my pc, connect to the internet but would not be able to find any pages. I then disabled NIS and it would work again!!!!

Basically I removed and re-installed NIS and all has been fine for a while but it is now back again intermittantly.

A similar problem occured where I ran LiveUpdate and it updated some client files but then completely FUBAR'd NIS.

Is NIS really this unstable or has anyone experienced this kind of thing?

Also what other products do people use?

Cheers

Andy

Avoid NIS.

Like the plague.

Currently using F-Secure at work - it's OK but still hogs the system, especially at startup. At home I don't use anything, if I want the net I'll wait til i'm at work... but getting a virus is less hassle than using Norton!

As above most of the virus anf firewall software slows your computer down so much!
I have tried just about everyone available and have settled on Avast, seems to be doing the job well, and speaks to you when it finds a virus and updates software etc I thought it was pretty cool and doesn't slow my system down.

Cheers for the replies guys - you're saying what I thought you would

Can't say I've ever heard of avast but will check it out. Does it do Firewall protection as well or do you use something else?

I pimp these two apps. around every 20 minutes For AV try Avast! 4 Home Edition (much better detection rate than AVG) and for your firewall needs Sygate Personal Firewall. Both are free for personal use.
