Default WIN2k AD2000 + EX2000 + WIN2003 SERVER AD help :)

Basically.. currently have a win2k AD, which also has exchange 2000.

I have created a win2003 server, which is a member server of the domain.

I am wanting to upgrade this 2003 server to a domain controller - the problem is when I run the 2003 forestprep on the 2000 AD, it is saying that the exchange 2000 AD needs to be done to resolve some issues.

I have looked at this article here : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=325379 (previously published under Q325379)..

and I need to do "Scenario 2: Exchange 2000 schema changes will be installed before the Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep command"

I have copied the script and does what it mentions, but it comes up with the following :

Connecting to "server.domain.local"
Logging in as current user using SSPI
Importing directory from file "inetorgpersonprevent.ldf"
Loading entries
1: CN=ms-Exch-Assistant-Name,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local

Add error on line 1: Referral
The server side error is "A referral was returned from the server."
0 entries modified successfully.
An error has occurred in the program

Anyone know how to get this resolved?

It's usually an LDAP connectivity error with that message. You often get it when there is an error in the LDAP connectivity string.

Make absolutely sure that this is correct, that your DNS is perfect and that the account you are using is explicitly a member of Schema Admins and that you have enabled changing the Schema on that DC.

copied it directly from the ms website..

dns is resolving, and the account is part of domain admins which is part of the Schema Admins group.

Yes have enabled changing of the scheme on that DC.

I had to do one of these schema changes as well on my network (2000 DCs with 2000 Exchange moving to 2003 DCs with 2003 Exchange). It worked first time for me from memory - I'll try to have a read of the articles in the morning and see if that jogs the memory.
