The US and UK were developed side by side, both after the initial Jap release.
The US version has same number of cars as UK version, but each have their own slight car variations based on their respective markets.

Pmac its not even been delivered by Amazon yet to the US address I had it sent to, let alone been put on a plane to the UK yet. Only reason I got the US version was I won a $50 amazon.com voucher while I was over there so thought i'd get GT4 for free basically
