Start at about £500 and work up. Depending on how much data you want off you might go over £1000.

This also depends on what data ,format age etc,but most respectable companies will give no guaranties, and the price always seem to go up in proportion to the amount of recoverable data (funny that)you could try a program "Recover My Files"
daft name but it does work, I have another on my works Laptop that you can download a demo which works once only, but can't think of the name and I'll post the name/link in the morning if you want, you could try a few downloaded demos to see what is recoverable yourself these might save time and money

from £500 its probably about 20gbs worth.

i'll give that program a go though how does it work? Basically it seems the HD is screwed, cant repair or install another windows on top. The only option i get is to format & install like new. Will i be able to boot to c: from a recovery disc? then try to save all c: to dvd or something?

oh & how do you create a recovery disc? only recall seeing it during the installation process

i take it you have tried to connect it to another PC?

If this works, I have used R-Undelete with great success,on a laptop drive.

I removed the laptop drive, connected into a usb type removable hard drive interface, and got straight on. then undeleted and copied everything off.

i was thinking that i could put it into an external device & use it at a 2nd drive. boot up as normal from another & see if it sees an additional drive. But i dont have a device to attach the HD into...

if you're referring to what I think you are, I can't do that mate.... soz.

I'm sure others will explain why.

As long as the BIOS recognises the HDD and it mounts ok then its a goer. You'd need to provide me with the original HDD, as well as one to dump the information onto.

i know that. Im wasting my time trying to get it to work or wasting lots of money to get someone else to recover it when i know what going to be on it - 'a salesman with a dvd writer just back from the US & laptop doesnt work' - you just know whats been going on....
