How sexy is this gonna be.
Rumors have surfaced that Apple are going to unleash a new Apple platform, cheap.
Basically its a $499 (about £250) box that basically is the same size as a sparc pizza box based on a 1.2 GHz PowerPC chip. (Similar style/size to the Xserv box)
It could be the re-making of apple in the same fashion as the ipod did.

I'd like to see it. If it is for real, then I hope it will be targeted more towards being a media centre rather than a PC.
I see Apple have got lawsuit happy over it, so it looks promising so far. However I still don't expect to see it next week.

I hope it's true, I had thought of buying an HTPC case with a view to ditching the DVD player but I think I'll wait and see what happens with this first.

But I think it will give windows geeks like me a chance to try out a decent commodity price point mac. Yeah sure we have all played with them, but they have never been "ours" to break, you know, how we all fiddle and if it breaks just re install etc. I mean I have a duel g5 on my desk that is hardly ever even turned on because I just don't know what im doing with it.
The best thing about these is that they will hopefully be standard pc type parts as much as poss (unlike the G5 cdrw drive) and we tweakers can max em out. If we like em we may even go and buy a "proper" mac so to speak, rather than a peecee . It really is a win win situation. fu*k me, never thought id be enthusiastic about a mac.

That's the rumour that I heard, that Apple were targetting those that may not otherwise buy a full blown desktop Mac and it would give them the chance to try itout. I don't need that testing period though, just want the goodies

Its true - Taken from macrumors
Mac mini
Encased in brushed metal, the new Mac mini features a square shape with rounded edges and is somewhat similar in appearance to an Apple AC power adapter. It features a slot-loading CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo drive, USB 2.0, FireWire 400, DVI and VGA connectivity and a headphone jack.
Jobs describes the Mac mini and BYODKM: Bring Your Own Display, Keyboard and Mouse. The Mac mini works just fine with Apple's peripherals, of course, or you can use other industry-standard peripherals.
The Mac mini comes in two models -- a 1.25GHz, 40GB G4 system for $499 and an 80GB 1.42GHz G4 system for $599.
!!!!Both are coming on January 22, 2005. AND ITS ONLY £339!!!!!!!!
