It's called a KVM switch - even PC Pants sell them albeit at over-inflated prices in that particular case. They are usually two channel or four channel. They actually allow for one keyboard and mouse to control both machines as well as one monitor output.

Word of warning on KVM switches:

If you play games, some of the USB KVM switches occasionally drop keystrokes. By this I mean if you are playing a 1st person shooter and are moving forwards, all of a sudden you will come to a standstill for no reason other than the keystroke has been dropped.

Ended up unplugging mine while I'm playing HL2

I've also had no end of problems with PS2 switch boxes, somewhere between the cables and the sockets and it usually is the mouse that goes first. You end up with 3 mice on your desk with numbers written on them!

I guess it's like some people and photocopiers - I just can't deal with KVM devices!

I have a two port Belkin OmniView PS2 KVM and I've not had any problems with that between XP and Linux/BSD, even with games. My model isn't the same as what's on offer there though, must be an older one.

Some monitors have switchable inputs... my iiyama VM pro 450 has 2 that can be swapped between.
