Default Best 17" TFT

Hi basically as above im looking to upgrade from my old 15" TFT to a newer high spec 17" I have looked through tons of mags and sites but as dont know too much about monitors was hoping i coulf get a little help on this one.

I really liked the look of the sharp range but i play alot of games these days and hear i need a low response TFT like 16 or 12ms and im lost with the refresh rate bits just see i need that high as poss aas well like 80Khz.

so any help and links would be much appreciated, i am also looking to upgrade graphics card in near future but dare i ask what should i be looking for as im lost with the amount there are on sale and seems like would need to sell the Subaru at the cost of some of them

cheers

Just been through this dilemma myself. I ordered an Iiyama E431S. Good reviews almost everywhere. I see LG have launched the 1730B now which is well received. Both are sub 16ms response time so claim to be alright for games etc. Both around 300 quid. Happy hunting.

I have had a XIOD IM17SM for about 2 1/2 years now, its cost around £300 then and its still more or less the same price now. No problems at all with it. It plays FPS (UT 2004, Half Life etc) brillliantly.

I dont know how it compares to other TFT's, but it does me fine !

Had it on half an hour and VERY impressed (and not much impresses me!)

Piece of **** to setup and looks really good on the desk (essential in getting the purchase past the missus).

I've fired up TOCA2 and it plays just fine for me, maybe the tiniest bit of blurring on the buildings but you really have to look to see it. (1280x1024 native, full sliders and options). Off to try a movie now....

No dead pixels I can see (you need 7 for an RMA) so pretty chuffed with it.

Shagged out Cpq V720 anyone...?

thanks for your ideas not many monitors seem to have as good specs as the benq 783 including the 12ms response and digital and analogue input.

Due to really wanting a new monitor I have also gone ahead and ordered the multi media version of the benq 783 with the speakers ect, has gone out of stock now so lucky put order in when i did.

cheers for all the help hope has helped others as well as sure they are many people in same position.

Let us know how it is, my semi-decent 17" CRT is on the way out so I have an Iiyama E431S arriving Monday, will be interested to hear how yours goes, especially with games.

I've done a couple more games and tried some movies and the 783 is loooking like a very good purchase indeed.

Very pleased with it and would recommend.

Mate of mine has a 431 and he's very happy with it but doesn't do much with it apart from windows desktop apps.

Glad to hear your new 783 is going well cant wait for mine to arrive as well hope its early part of next week, as far as the Iiyama E431S you have ordered stevecotton i think you wil find that a very good monitor as well that was also on my top 3 list as it was at the top of the 17" tft's in on e of my mags i buy.

I think if its only windows apps and basic internet you use then the TFT spec is not quite so important as it is for gamers as this is when it really counts.

Ok my benq 783 multi media came today been using it about half hour all going well very impressed so far gotta give it a go on the games in a bit see how that goes.

Purchased my Benq 783 from Ebuyer same as Hankscorpio I always use them and i only found one cheaper place on the net and they where out of stock.

I think its definetly worth paying the extra £10 to have the speakers/webcam and also the monitor in black and silver.
