Question

I have been offered a 1 year old 19" TFT screen for £300. I have a 19" CRT currently, but it is pants. I have got to source a power supply for it. It is a SUN (as in microsystems)badged screen, but I have been led to believe that it as actually a Samsung Screen.

Anyways, my question is: What is the performance of modern TFT's like for gaming? I have used laptop screens before and found them to be just about bareable. Just don't like the strobing on fast movement. Are the proper TFT screens any better for this?

Cheers,

Nick

I don't know about the refresh rate, but check the maximum available resolution of the TFT - the older ones (and even some newer ones) are quite limited on resolution and maxres might be 1280x1024 or even 1024x800 - depends what you've been running your CRT at I guess but if you're up to 1600 you might find it a bit limited. Still sounds like a bargain though!

All the best,

Dean

Cheers mate. The native resolution is 1280x1024@60/76hz on the TFT screen. I run 1024x768 currently and have a Geforce3, so the performance hit is negligible. I am more concerned with the gaming side of things.....

Puff uses a couple at home for C/S he may be able to help ref gaming.

I have a 17" TFT and 17" CRT at work. The only real disadvnatge to the tft is that they are designed for one resolution. (e.g. my 17" 1280x1024) at anything else they are seriously comprimised. So you need to make sure you can run all your games at the same res. And that res suits you.

For general office apps etc I like mine.
