Xbox DVD Drive Failure - best place to get it repaired and how much?
My XBOX'x DVD Drive is on it's way out, it keeps stopping and spining up, most of the time refusing to load games first time, and giving "disc maybe dirty" errors.
Does anyone know how much this repair will cost and what's the best place to contact about it?
Cheers.
Edited to add the console is not in warrenty, I bought it just over 2 years ago.

get one off e-bay. The Thompsons are probably the most common and some people don't rate them but mine is fine.

LOL @ Guy
PiNkEyE69 - Thompson drive is fine, thats what I use. Live will work fine too, MS aren't bothered if you change your DVD drive. Chances are, even if it was a warranty repair you'd get a different one anyway.
You'll need 2 torx bits (number 10 & 20) do the job, just 6 screws for the outer case. 4 under the rubber feet and one under each of the 2 labels. Then the torx 10 for the internal screws to remove the drive caddies (3 screws) and refit the new drive. You'll need to remove both the HDD and DVD caddies. To replace the DVD, its one IDE cable and one yellow power connector (not molex as I said earlier, thats for HDD).

I've seen the Phillips drive going for the same price as the Thompson, I've heard in the early days the phillips xbox dvd drive had better reliability than the thompson, is this still true? What other differences are there between them? any differernce in speed?
Also, what size Torx screwdrivers do I need to open my xbox, I know the screws inside are different to the ones on the bottom.
Cheers guys.
