Question Reinstalling WinMe

Anyone know if it's possible to reinstall Win ME "over the top" without losing Apps and Data?? I fear not, but if it is, can someone suggest an URL with guidance? I've had immense trouble trying to install mcafee Virus scan 8 on a WinMe machine, and fear I may have a damaged system file

IMHO you should ditch WinME. By far the worst OS

Yes Phil, you can reinstall it without losing everything.

As for the other comments, it's always confused me why these pop up seeing as Me is 98SE with a few miscellaneous bits (System Restore, shell enhancements etc.) bolted on top. Sure, 2K and XP are better, more capable, more stable OSes (not even mentioning *nux), but if WinMe is working for you at this moment, I don't see any reason why you'd suddenly need to ditch it...

Easy mate,
just put in the disk (me) and be sure the bios is set to boot from cd 1st.
select start windows installation.
then continue as if you were installing for the first time and thats it.
you'll not loose anyfin if you dont do any formatting.

but as the others say, ditch it if poss and go for a windowsXP upgrade, you can do this also without loosing your files.

Reinstall ME? Why? The title ME was unfortunate as it is pretty much related to the human form of the disease ME. Also, add the letter la and you get a pretty good picture of what ME is

Thanks, Guys & Gals! Problem is I cannot get Mcafee Virusscan 8 to install under ME, and I've been forced to make so many hard reboots that I fear I've got corrupted system files hanging about

I share the negative views about ME: however, it's not my machine. @ Celeron 700/128Mb it's a bit thin for XP and I'm reluctant to suggest to the (retired) owners who want it for E-Mail, Net & WP - and not much else - that they should invest in XP or a new machine + XP (as, in fact, is their own inclination).

Cheers,

Phil
