Online shop creation software
#1
I've recently been looking into the various software available for producing online shops.
Does anyone have any recommendations, or products to avoid, which will help me choose the right software for me?
Basically i'm not looking for anything too complicated, it will need:
Unlimited products, departments etc.
Ability for offline payment (i.e. I want the software to email me with the card details etc. so I can process the order on my terminal manually)
Ability to import from databases, csv files etc.
Thanks,
Gareth

www.actinic.co.uk - piece of p1ss. You can have an online shop up and running in half an hour. Very limited with what you can do but excellent for the amateur
www.oscommerce.com - php based. takes alot of modification. But same as what www.ebuyer.co.uk use. You can change anything and make it do just about anything. Not for the amateur
If you need any more help let me know. Ive done lots of shops using these packages. used to be a novice so I used actinic but now ive moved onto my own custom oscommerce

If you decide on the Actinic route, I have an unused, un-registered bundle here that i no longer need.
Could be yours considerably cheaper that retail.

eBuyer's isn't osCommerce, it's their own bespoke system, and very good it is too.
I know it's no help at all, but I built my own system. You can see it in action at http://www.xfactormotorsport.co.uk/

Hello
You could do it bespoke for the cost of Actinic or equivalent.
I did this www.visionfireworks.co.uk by hand and the guy manages his own catalogue / images.
Steve.

I used osCommerce when I set a shop up.
http://www.oscommerce.com
it is not for the faint hearted but it is good and very customisable and there are loads of contributions from people to improve it.

You do not have to be a php programmer but it helps if you know your way round source code and have some common sense.
Here is the shop I did and am still working on, nowhere near finished yet but is it ever.

Ebuyer was based on OSCommerce. It is a bespoke version but that is just a highly customised OSCommerce. Doesnt change the fact it started as the OSCommerce code. Trust me I know...

The Actinic catalogue is 3months old. It has been installed on a lappy for a play about with but it has never been registered.
We have custom built a shop now so have no use for the package.
It cost just short of £500 (IIRC it's v6 or 8, whichever was the latest 3 months ago)
No reasonable offer refused.
