Hi all,
Just moved house, ADSL incoming in a few days or so, I plan to do the following:
http://www.applus.plus.com/apnet/apnet_frame.htm
Using:
http://www.smoothwall.org for firewall and routing
and this for a Wireless Access Point: http://www.linksys.com/support/displ...id=501&scid=35
does this look sensible? or am I making a dumb error?
Andy

Also check out ClarkConnect and Mandrake Network Firewall. Both are free for personal use.
At the moment I'm running ClarkConnect and am quite happy with it. Here's why I don't use Smoothwall.

Cant say i entirely understand the conversation going on< however every firewall has its weaknesses _ ive used quite a few different linux firewalls at work two of which got hacked to bits and rendered useless _ smoothwall was the only one we never had a problem with>>>>>>

ADP, for security reasons, I really wouldn't advise displaying your network setup on the net like that.
As for the firewall strength, unless set up by an experienced security expert, any firewall (esspecially local windows ones like zonealarm etc) are pretty easy to bypass for good hackers.
I have seen PIX's and IPTables firewalls that have been setup by 'so called' experts with holes in. Easy meat.

Ah Im not fussed, its a pretty standard setup really. Havent given any Ips out, and besides both my housemates are network engineers, and I know a little so I reckon as a home setup goes well be better off than most! My pc will also be sat behind Norton just as an added bonus
