Ok bit of a longshot this but here goes....
I have just purchased a DV Camcorder and have a query regarding the PC connection. Ideally I want to capture the footage to the PC and then create VCD / DVD.
The camcorder has both USB and Firewire outputs. When using the USB output and capturing the video to the PC using the JVC software, the quality is rather blocky on full screen when I create a VCD and to be honest looks crap....
Would the quality be anybetter using the firewire connection to capture the footage, or is the standard software ( ImageMixer With VCD Ver.1.1 ) that came with the camera causing the problem..
Any help will be mucho appreciated..

AFAIK, you need DV Out to capture pure digital quality to your PC (usually as an AVI file). On my camcorder this is only available via the Firewire port.

Just checked the manual and the Firewire port is classed as the DV out port so you could be right....
Looks like I will need a cheapo firewire card for me PC now...
Cheers

It defo works like that on mine, but I've never tried it any other way. I got my Firewire card for nowt when I ordered some other stuff from eBuyer. £10-£15 normally.
I use Pinnacle to capture all my DV stuff. 60min captures to a 15-20GB avi file hope you've got plenty of disk space
