Chaps

With Donno just around the corner, and as its my first track day i would like to mount my Camcorder in-car to take some footage of the action.

Wheres best to mount it, do you use a tripod sat on the backseats, if so how do you stop it from falling over or is there a special bracket you can buy?

Regards

Paul

There are mounts avaliable to buy/hire - the cost of opurchase of a good 'un is not cheap.
try Proquip rentals - 01932 567111

You can 'wedge a tripod in the back of your car. Needless to say it will need tying down, ideally to the seatbelt mounts. do not forget to put a saftey line onto the camera and again fix it to one of the seatbelt mounts, best use the passenger one and make sure that thwew saftey line is long enouggh the allow a good picture but short enough so's the camera cannot come into contact with your head should the camera come loose.

i made a camera mount suing the head of an old tripod fixed to a gaffa grip ( bloody great crocodlie clip, plastic covered witha jaw capacity big enough to fit round a roll cage tube. - Got the grip from a mate who hires cam,era and lights for video production - not cheap though cost to buy around £ 70.00

My vid has a standard tripod mount. Using a 3 legged tripod, 2 legs strapped (tie-down cables) to the holes in the headrests. 3rd leg faces rearwards. Adjust all 'til secure.

Works pretty well for me, with the minimum of camera movement ('cept @ silverstone where I forgot to tighten straps after re-adjustment )

Speaking from a personal point of view i have had a couple of bad experiences with suction mounts. I was within the weight loading and they still came off. This is really to do with the forces exerted on the mount whilst in use. I would always go for the clamp type mount and wahtever you do fit a saftey line to the camera and a secure mounting point within the vehicle

I use a standard tripod, with one leg wedged behind the centre console, and the other two on the back seats. The rear seat belts hold the back two legs down, and I use bungee underneath the door to the centre console to hold the front leg down. It works fine, no camera shake at all, and you can even get the speedo and rev counter in the shot!
