burning outlook pst to cdr

It'll always be flagged read-only on a CD-R, so there's no way to avoid the opening problem without copying off the CD back onto disk and changing the flag.
One thought would be to try a CD-RW to see if that makes a difference to the .pst files attribute.

PSTs are opened as read/write, so the only way to get to them is to temporarily copy them to your hard drive.
Any true software architect would allow read-only access ('cos there is no reason not to!), but we are talking about Microsoft applications here

when i burned some lotus notes email (.nsf file) into a cdr, it was possible to open them directly on the cdr, although i had to replicate them into local and then burned them.
so surely there's a way to do the same with outlook pst file where i can open the pst file on the cdr directly??!

The pst files are completely different to Lotus Notes and required read/write access.
A CD-R just won't allow this and won't work.
A CD-RW may allow read/write access, but you'd need to try it. Other than that, you'd need to use a proper read/write device to store them - like a USB keyring

I doubt whether a CD-RW will allow access to a PST, because when it re-writes, it does so to a new part of the (CD-RW) disk. You can't just update a small sector/bucket/block (for old-time disk people ).
Dunno about USB Flash or Zip technology though?

surely i am not the only one trying to do archive pst file into cdr! is it absolutely cannot be done? i would be very surprise if this cannot be done!!! microsoft is a BIG company, no?
i was archiving lotus notes emails since version 4.65 and that was a good few years ago.
the whole point of burning it to cdr is to save space on the hdd!

suba, your missing the point. Yes, you can archive pst files onto CD and I've been doing so for years. The trouble is opening the PST requires read/write access.
It simply can't be opened directly from the CD-R.
Unfortunately being a BIG company doesn't mean jack, especially a blinkered Microsoft one
Since you don't believe me , here it is straight from the horses mouth.
