Trying to ramp up the memory on an early Pentium III box, and it doesn't like the PC133 I nicked out of another machine.

Anyone out there got a 64 or 128 meg PC100 SDRAM chip they dont need?

Its (possiibly) possible that it needs EDO dimms as some early PII motherboards IIRC couldnt use SDRAM 8o

Sorry, I really must check my facts before posting. It currently has a 64mb 6ns DIMM, there is one other DIMM socket available. (Its has a PIII chip, not PII)

Cheers

Its deffo running PC100. I tried a stick of PC133 and although it passed the initial POST memory test (ie it counted the ram and said it was OK), the PC stopped before POST had completed with an incompatible memory warning, saying it should be replaced with PC100.

Its a HP Brio. When I checked on their site it said

Model: BA600
Type: SDRAM
Max: 512 MB
Slots: 2
Pairs: No
Rating: PC100
Pins: 168

you may need to change a setting in the bios to tell it to run the memory at 100 instead of Auto, or change the cas latency or something like that. I have used PC133 with Pentium 2 so it should work OK. I have even had Pc133 working alongside PC66, it's just a case of setting it up correctly in the bios.

Edited to add - if it is a HP then you probably need HP memory, generic SDRam probably incompatible. Same with Compaq and Dell.

Its AMI Bios, no settings to change for memory speed, CAS latency etc, which is why I'm particularly after a stick of PC100.

I've used generic memory chips in HP and Dell before with no problem.

I'll have a poke about at home, but I think I only have 133 sticks floating about now...
