MS Word on my laptop just hangs when I try to open a document - how can I debug this?

Try renaming the Normal.DOT file to old Normal.Old

Any difference?

I've done that but no luck...

If I start word on its own (rather than open the document), it starts up fine. Just when I open this document (or any other document on my laptop) its not happy. Maybe the .dot file these documents are using have become corrupt - can I reset them somehow?

Cheers.

try browsing the file (test.doc) in explorer, hold down shift, right hand click it and select iopen with...
re- associate the files of that type with ms word and try again!!!

You install a new printer?

Incorrect/mismatched Printer drivers can cause word to hang.

Cheers

Tried the 'open with' trick - no avail

I did install a printer - so how do I fix this? Uninstall the printer?

Thanks for any help...

Have to be quick i'm off for a train.

Basically add another printer, go through the add printer wizard, the printer doesn't have to exist, try an HP desjket or the like. Once added make the new printer the default printer. Now word should work.

Hope it works.
