Recently purchased GPS for my Compaq Ipaq - brand new £64.00 off ebay - bargain.

Coupled with TomTom Navigator I have to say it's impressed the pants off me.

100% accurate up to now, clear, concise instructions, excellent software.

Can't recommend it enough

Question

Can you use just the Tom Tom software with a pocket pc linked to a GPS system such as the Road Angel?

I bought mine from Ebay off a user chucky-egg, he sells them for all PDA's, I got mine for what worked out to be £74 inc p&p.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=3003511668 - here's one currently up for auction. Click view seller's other auctions for a list of all his GPS items. Once he received payment, I received the GPS within 3 working days.

Everything's in german, but I can confirm that it's was a simple plug&play installation on my Compaq Ipaq, picks up 6+ satellites with >1minute (cold start).

With the TomTom navigator sotware - yes Very good instructions, there's no need to take your attention off the road - which is nice.

If you have an Ipaq at the moment, take a look here for ipaq gps. (I know it's in German, but the seller has them available for 36xx, 37xx, 38xx & 39xx series IPAQ, and he speaks English well enough to complete a sale. The GB map software is available from here, and cost EUR129. (I received it within 2 days of ordering).

So if you can win the auction at around EUR95 (which I did), then the software and brand new GPS costs around £150 - bargain

I am speaking with various people about connecting an iBook with a RoadAngel for GPS navigation. Blackspot so far have been the least helpful!! It should be possible but the correct cable is required and device drivers for the RoadAngel are needed which as far as I know do not exists for Apple or PC.

Si

The roadangel requires no drivers AFAIK. I have it connected to my Fujistu Siemens Loox with a serial connection. The output it gives is 9600,8,n,1 NMEA standard.

I have also had my laptop connected to it but Autoroute doesn't speak NMEA at that speed.

I guess all you need is a standard 9 pin serial cable for the iBook unfortunately the iBook is something I know nothing about.

Thumbs up

WillieF,

The iBook does not have serial it has USB, I was thinking the same type of cable you have but with a Serial/USB converter on it. I don't suppose you can supply me one? I would be using Route 66 software on the iBook. Do you use the serial interface on the RoadAngel or the dplug?

Si.

I can get the model number off the bottom, it takes about 30-60 secs for first lock-on.
