Question

Looks pretty good with lots of features. I've ordered one, so I'll let you know what it's like after!

Question

Bit pricey, isn't it? What's the point, when most modern PCs will decode DivX quite happily?

Exclamation

It allows the use of a low spec PC and offers TV out, so I can use an old PC as a movie PC on my telly.

A better option than just getting a video card with a TV out, which would still need a better processor and more memory than the machine currently has.

64Mb card with TV out is about the same money as the X-Card.

a low spec PC would be like a 486 or a P75 coz surely even a PII can do software mpeg and DivX.

Look at the load on the processor. Look at how the PC compensates (dropped frames, etc) especially on larger video files.

As I say, maybe it will do what I want, maybe it won't but I'll let you know after I've had a play.

I would have needed a video card with a TV out on it, and this card offers TV out with additional hardware decoding for the same money.

Also if you have a DVD drive, it can do that, and do it as a multi region player. And has a remote control so all the commands can be done without a keyboard and mouse!

There is an option of an RGB SCART lead, but I'll be using the S-Video output on the back of the card.

Did I mention it can output 5.1 sound, and link in with your amp? As well as have a co-axial digital out on your sound.

So I don't think the price is too high! In fact it sounds like a bargain.

Cool

I have the standard mpeg2 card. All I can say is has been rock solid, drivers and application.

Looking forward to your assessment Andy

Red face

Ordered late afternoon Monday, arrived today at 9am!

I need to shuffle PC's and hard disks around, and try not to blow up anything!!

Might be the weekend before I even get started! Be patient!

Wink

Shame really, as I'm happy with my DVD/LD player! Which I got for a bargain price, as has all the features I need like DTS, VCD, dual lasers and of course the ability to watch the Star Wars trilogy on Laser Disk!
