If you're running W2K or XP and have a modem, just add the fax services stuff under the Add/Remove Windows Components dialog. It sets up a 'printer' which you can use from any app, and which will send the fax directly over your phone line.

I use this, along with an eFax account, and it means I can send/receive faxes for free without a fax machine.

Never paid for eFax. It's a free service! I think they make their money by the cost of the call to the fax number.

Just sign up for an eFax Free number, and you can receive faxes for free too.
