Default Firefox sync

So for anyone who used firefox sync to manage your data between apps here's a warning for you.

The sync encryption key is created against your current password, reset your password and all your data is removed from the server. That's fine if you have an active PC with all your links etc, but I reinstalled and lost all my work stuff.

Really ****ty security process, at the very least they should have a warning.

Regrettably this is correct - if you need an explanation for this see the relevant sections of the protocol design document below.


Search the attached for "Changing the Password" and "Handling a Forgotten Password" for the detail.

Please don't get caught by the scams or malware that will claim to recover your stored data - it is not possible.
