Default data recovery tools

Need some advice over the years I have had a couple of external usb drives fail and I would like to try and recover the info. most is just movies and family photos etc.

The drives in some case have lost their volume label info but still register in device manager.

Can anyone recommend any software or process I can use to recover any data from them?

Thanks in advance

Highly recommend Recuva - has been reliably successful for me in the past.

License costs around £20.

Pandora recovery and recuva. Both free and both work well. I've used them both for all sorts of jobs and unless the drove is totally ballicksed, you get something worthwhile off.

Hi there

Personally I would have look Recuva which is OK,but in yours case I don't think this will work

Other option is using live Linux CD something like is Knoppix,I've used that for recovering my old external HDD which failed in past and its probably cheapest and easiest way how to do it

Please have look on this

http://lifehacker.com/192982/geek-to...with-a-boot-cd

I've recovered with Knoppix several failed HDD,USB sticks for friends

Hope this helps

Thanks,Jura
