When all the major carriers move their flights to CDG AMS and FRA, LHR will be screwed and jobs will be lost affecting many of those that protested against the 3rd runway as ultimately they live in the area and are probably directly or indirectly employed by a company on or around Heathrow serving Heathrow in some capacity, which ultimately will effect the national and local economies.

Khan just used this for political gain proving again what an utter bell end he is.

These people need to be going after the real issues, China, India, and the deforestation in Brazil and Indonesia, Heathrow expansion is just a mere speck of dust in the global picture.

But hey it's a lot easier to sit in the middle of Oxford Street protesting and pop into Pret for a sandwich when you get hungry.

 

I agree with the decision to stop the 3rd runway, but not for the reasons given.

Why do we need to all travel to london to fly? plenty of other airports around the country that could be improved and expanded.

Exactly, it doesn’t matter what it is, if it screws up the airport then there is no proper alternative. You can’t even get to the place; Stationary traffic is a daily occurrence between J12 and 16 on the M25 and lasts all day on Friday. Getting there via train ain’t exactly great either as there’s no proper local links...it’s nearly a 4 hour train journey requiring 4 changes and lots of suitcase dragging.... if there were no traffic, it’s 1.5hours (if you leave at 2am and the highways numpties haven’t done any midnight closures).

Money would be better spent on a M25 bypass so those going to folkestone from the North don’t have to get stuck on there along with the desk driver commuters; To think if there’s no traffic I can drive to Calais as quick as it takes a train to get to Heathrow!

No plans to Holiday in the UK again...been there, done that....too many annoying Brits

Energy company Drax is to stop burning coal at its North Yorkshire power station - once one of western Europe's biggest polluters - from March 2021. It says it will then close its two coal units in September 2022 with the loss of 230 jobs at the site near Selby

in the same time period to then china will create 12 new plants, 1200 new jobs mean the environmental saving is pointless and does nothing but hurt the uk economy.

 

If we want to make air travel greener we can firstly make commuting within the UK better, negating internal flights (I’ve previously flown from BHX to LHR, because train takes too long and it cost more to drive and park the car than it did to catch a internal flight!). I’d rather fly from my local airport, ta.

Second we need to dig out all those military/aviation engine patents and prototypes that were all locked away after WW2 and after the jet engine wiped everything else out. The current trend of plonking on a bigger and bigger bypass fan infront of a glorified oil furnace is reaching its limits now. The likes of Ricardo and Rolls Royce came up with some pretty advanced alternatives that were all shelved as the jet engine was far cheaper to develop given manufacturing abilities and power outputs required.

Problem is jet engines just don’t have enough compression to extract all the power from burning the fuel. That’s why the world most efficient and cleanest engines are piston powered. Turbines should not be used as the prime mover, their best use is for energy recuperation (turbo).

But bean counting has made propulsion technology stagnate for generations to point that other designs have been forgotten and what we have today is the only means available.

Today, we have the materials and manufacturing ability to make these designs that weren’t achievable beyond prototypes in the 1950’s. Take the Rolls Royce’s Crecy, which would have been the world most powerful piston engine had the jet engine not killed before it went beyond a scaled prototype.

That was BA IT failures, not BAA after BA outsourced to India, something lord king said they'd never do. On the first occasion there was no one in India able to resolve the issue so BA had to send a team from London down to India on Air India as their own aircraft weren't flying

Having used BA for over 30 years in a cargo capacity I know how arrogant and useless they are, you cannot even speak to them directly within their cargo shed in LHR you have to call India who in turn e-mail LHR and then call you back, the Indian call centres are staffed with the same people that look after British Gas. Nuff said
