Met office computer...
Can’t they just stick some more RAM in the old one and defrag the hard drive?
Its not even five years old, and cost £96million...and now they are going to splash out another £1.2billion on a new one!
Old computer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-29789208
New one: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51504002
How many rivers could be dredged with £1.296billion ?

Well the BBC don't buy their Weather from the Met Office any more - it went out to tender and they awarded it to MeteoGroup - a European Weather Agency. So the Weather Forecasts you see on the News is not MetOffice data.
Why in sweet jesus' name a publicly funded UK Weather Group (the Met Office - considered the best in the World!) can't supply data to a UK Publicly Funded Broadcaster (BBC) using British technology and British Public Funds, lets keep the money within the country/treasury 'ey boys! - feckin boils my sodding ****.....

Apparently the Met Office not only used to provide the weather data to the BBC, but also the presenting staff. When the BBC switched to MeteoGroup, they got a cheaper forecast based on Met Office data, but no presenters, so the BBC had to then employ the presenters from the Met Office. So there is probably no net saving for the BBC and the BBC will also have to take on the costs of training any new presenters.
Probably some stupid accountant just looked at the numbers without comparing the services being provided!

I love the weather forecasts on the radio news. 'Sunny in Ireland and a bit of rain in Edinburgh and the rest of you can just guess'
No one will ever tell the future, computer or not. Just give us a best guesstimate

Sunny showers is code for it’ll probably rain, but then again it may not.
And generally speaking that is British weather. Golf brolly (Don’t play golf...was given it went I went round the Bentley factory in Crewe ) and storm proof winter 3in1 coat lives in my car.
In winter it also had a folding shovel and tow rope dumped in there....which I never needed, even during the ‘beast from the east’ when I had Pilot sport 3s with less than 3mm of tread and was forced to use side roads due to plebs getting stuck and blocking the main roads. All the weather warnings did was make all the office desk drivers panicky, so they all finish work early and all and try to race home at the same time causing chaos. The fact they still went to work despite plenty of warning in cars not equipped and no ability to drive in snow kind of proves that regardless of how advanced or accurate the warning is, it will cause chaos...you’ll still get stuck in snow, or get blocked in by someone who gets stuck and if your house is in lowlands and flood planes it will still flood.

I could have had a road test if I brought my driver’s license
Got to be taken for spin by one of the stability/handling engineers instead (who owns a original BMW 3000cs)...which was probably more interesting as he could show the how the various systems affected the ride and handling...
Also answered my question and showed me what happens if you press the parking brake button whilst driving
