Dan...

Comparing it to a 996...... My comparison age for age should be 997 v Z4M like you say...

But im comparing £££££ v £££££.......2001 996 or 2006 Z4M... A 2006 997 is twice the price of a comparable mileage Z4M..

Unfortunatly no Boxster would come close to the BMW,its an unfair comparison.. Maybe a 3.0si is more equal ??

My friend has a 2002 3.2s and the Z4M just walks away from him..... We went to CPOP yesterday and had a little blast and he was stunned how the BMW left him for dead everywhere..

See.....We are still on Porsches
I beg to differ.

Not ALL Boxsters are the same.

Depends how heavy the 987 is.

Mine only weighs in at 1275 kg.

That aside, I really like the look of the Z4M - it would be the only Z4 I'd have (along with the Alpina Roadster) and seriously looked at them before I bought the Spyder.

I wouldn't ever buy a normal Boxster, either....

It is, yes.

Just feels a whole lot more due to the lightweight - much like an Exige with only 240 bhp.
And the noise.... with the roof off and PSE on..... stunning.

There's a good thread about the Z4M on PH that's just been resurrected -

Basic price was £47k.
Some were specced upto around the £55-£60k mark.

Only 230 registered in the UK, but not made anymore.

What's the RFL cost on the Z?

Big dollars....

£260 for 6 months...... An extra £4 a week over the 996....Sounds cheaper when you say it that way....lol...

Insurance is £165 cheaper PA though,so it kinda balances out..

Who did you insure with mate?
I had to ring around quite a bit when I got my M3 as it was going to cost quite a bit more than my Skyline and 535D did. Moley reckoned, when I tried to renew, that nobody will touch them because everybody wraps them round lamppost with them only being rear wheel drive. Thankfully I did find a few that would and competitively.

I know I've said this before Zip but there's a couple of guys take a Spyder to the Donington track days. They take it in turns taking customers round and it hardly ever stops for a break. Where all the other cars come in steaming, smoking, dripping oil/water and even catching fire, the Spyder just does it. It does have carbon brakes, I don't know if that's standard, which helps. It does far more laps than anything else and then when its finished, they put the plates back on and drive it home.
So when you taking your over
(mind you, they've tightened up on the noise limit lately. Two 997 turbos got black flagged a couple of weeks ago and weren't allowed to continue and they were supposed to be standard)
