There are a number of people who probably wish that theyd kept quiet now; dont you think? This thread hasnt done anyone any good professionally; quite the opposite, in fact.

I dont doubt your wealth of experience and i have seen your premises first hand and nobody can dispute what a professional set-up u have however the way certain comments have been put across haven't done certain people any favours imo.

Agree with that statment.

I dont know either party from adam.
The first post from mr jefrey was in my opinion a blatent attempt to put the cat among the pigeons, and regardless of any subsiquent back peddling did himself no favours.
I've been here a while and always considered that particular outfit to be one of the well respected tuners on here.

In future when you decide to give someone the benifit of your wealth of experience might i suggest you do it in a more descreet manner more befitting a gentleman of your stature as opposed to doing so at the exspence of someones elses reputation.
In business we all have to start somewhere, and as this thread demostrates non of us is perfect

Ok guys as the original poster i have to say that this thread has totally lost its original intention and seems to have become a witch hunt for people to criticise Alan Jeffrey for his VERY blunt approach!!

Lets just get this straight from me as the OP.

1, I am Very happy with Duncan and his mapping skills/advise

2, I appreciate and value Alan's input as to the efficiency of the intercooler and potential detrimental effects.

3, BOTH Duncan and Alan are well respected by the majority of S'netters and any advise given by either party should be treated with respect in my opinion.

4, The Sh*t seems to have been stirred more by other people jumping in to comment on other peoples comments!

Controversy.
Definition: debate, dispute
Alternatives; altercation, argument, beef, bickering, brush, contention, difference, discussion, disputation, dissention, embroilment, falling-out, flak, fuss, hurrah, miff, polemic, quarrel, row, rumpus, scene, scrap, squabble, strife, tiff, words, wrangle, wrangling

Without it, we'd have nothing to talk about!

As one who has just spent the last hour and a half giving my seventeen year old a driving lesson, I've had quite enough of the above for one day, thanks very much.

Maybe it just seems like it when you go from South Devon to North Devon, the roads are seriously bad and it takes an age. I think I'd rather drive to Birmingham.
Well, maybe not.

OP: Thanks for your PM. That is the only way I would know about this thread.
You can give me a ring today after 09:30 if you wish to talk this through further. 07860 302020.
I have no time for some of the crap on here or to address some of the plain stupidity.
1. You have a good spec, however, I am surprised you have not been advised to fit a Walbro fuel pump or better. I can do a Walbro 341, referred to as a Walbro 255 LPH pump for Classic, with fitting kit £75 posted or £100 fitted. I see others selling this pump for about £72 if you want to save £3.
2. At 280 bhp on 93-96 cars the slanted TMIC is already struggling. Subaru obviously recognise this because model on model they have been improving the intercooling from inception to the present day.
You are totally wasting your time and embarking on a lot of work if you want to fit an STi 3,4,5, or 6 TMIC which are a complete waste of time at your existing power level.
An STi 8 TMIC WITH BONNET SCOOP AND UNDERTRAY will be a definate move forward from where you are at present, however, it is not the best solution.
Your best solution is an efficient front mount and the most efficient cost effective solution I am aware of, unbiased by the fact I sell Hybrid front mount intercoolers, is the Hybrid GT with tube and fin core. £325 plus delivery or £325 and we fit for a fixed £185. If you feel flush you could also go for the Hybrid GT2. Purchase cost £375.
3. At that point with the fuel pump and front mount you are project creep proofed and protected for future modifications a long way past 400 odd bhp which is a long way past your current potential as you are still on standard internals.
4. I am dispondent about RR figures. An unscrupulous operator (I am not suggesting that in this case) can greatly influence the power figure up or down as he chooses. I can go to one rolling road where the car consistantly records 422 bhp and go to another rolling road for around 448 bhp which is pretty good for one of my own TD05.5 20Gs which I know cannot move enough air to do any more than 435 bhp. So as for quoting RR figures do yourself a favour and treat them all with a degree of scepticism as they are probably as about as accurate as a weather forecast on the TV.

I hope this helps. No time for a bun fight. If anyone wants to dispute the above information, fine by me, they clearly don't know what they are talking about, have not spent the time carefully investigating the differences between OE and aftermarket intercoolers and don't have first hand experience with accurate monitoring of engine operating perameters.
Cheers.

Welcome aboard Harvey!
I think the issue was what the man could get away with on his budget. I thought it was a step too far for the slanty, in which case we would have cut the cloth to suit.
Without doubt, one of your intercoolers would be ideal.
I'm almost tempted to pay for the bloody thing myself !

Please give me your opinion on that statement.
Again i go back to my previous post,

"its not what you say its how you say it"

There are a lot better ways to approach what you did / said.

For instance "has duncan explained to you the potential issues you'll have running that power through a slanty. Im sure he will have but just checking, If you want to ask anything PM me !"

Now im no Rocket scientist but thats sounds a lot better to me.

Again pointing out errors is only trying to help people which is a good thing. Just better ways to put things thats all
