the cyclists really but because of them, when they come careering down a single track lane right the way across and don't like to stop because theres no where for the car to pull over it can get very close, then the car drivers usually get a barrage of abuse because there holding the race up while they try to get out of the way.

It's not called that anymore. But I will indulge you even though you get the cretin prize.

I too pay 'car tax' which goes in to the government funds. Car tax alone does not pay for the roads. As I do 25-30k a year private mileage I pay a lot of tax in petrol and I also pay a lot of tax due to being a higher rate tax payer.

Therefore I should be able to use the road more than you.

I think you will find the races are marked out, sign posted, usually have a car in front and behind and a risk assessment taken place.

Well as a cyclist the sound of a knuckle on glass is way different to that of a car wheel crushing a bike...

dunx

P.S. If you are so myopic that you can see/judge clearance for a cyclist then catch a bus.

A few years ago I was cut-up by a student in Mummy's Micra, as he changed lanes into "mine", and slammed into the passenger door, caving it in completely. He sat their with his mate laughing, so I caved the rear quarter in with my foot.

Then cycled off with a bruised knee, ( laughing ! )

dunx

P.S. I also got hit by a pensioner doing 50 mph, resulting in a gashed elbow and a broken car door mirror...

I think it's obvious that some insanity is needed to cycle wearing the lycra stuff, which means there is some serious perception/psychological failure going on.

I mean, who gets that kit on then thinks "I look the nuts in this!" ?

They aren't cyclists ! the are Mountain Bikers, they tend to see themselves as Rufty Tufty radical dudes that do some "Sick" ****, they tend to claim to be fearless and yes, some of the stuff does look pretty serious but by and large a lot of them seem to avoid ever going on the road, I mean, its a bit scary isn't it and you don't get to wear full body armour.

Cyclists are the ones you see every day, in all weathers dressed like a **** and not caring.

No, motorists pay in excess of £45bn in various taxes, but road expenditure is around £10bn (figures from 2008) So, car tax pays for lots of other stuff too, like hospital treatment for mangled cyclists, wheelchairs for mangled cyclists, Motability vehicles for mangled cyclists, home improvements to allow mangled cyclists to live in their own homes after being mangled, benefits for mangled cyclists no longer able to work, training and job creation schemes to get mangled cyclists back to work, artificial limbs for mang......

FFS stop mangling cyclists (who are generally tax paying motorists as well) then !

If you actually weigh it up, most cyclists are healthier and happier than non cyclists, well proven that cyclists live seven years longer on average even taking into account the odd one getting mangled by grumpy driving instructors.

i've never known mountain bikers to wear lycra and have bike tyres as wide as a two pence piece race on public roads.

I find that if you give enough room when you overtake them, no one gets wound up and the whole thing is a non event.
