wow what interesting reading about SMR engines, that company wants shutting down if all the negative feedback.
Right gonna stick with my EJ25 block wheres the best place to take it for a remap when the inlet is back on the car, need to get this sorted as im not hearing good things and its seriously putting me off .

Is it ok running a EJ25 block with standered EJ20 heads and the rest of the engine componants ,i have a TD04 turbo with cat downpipe.
The car when running just purrs ,sounds really sweet but seemed to be holding back at a constant speed is this a fueling problem or desperatly in need of a remap how much for a remap i'l check the ecu later when i get home but should it have the standered my00 ecu or another cheers in advance lee

I'd start with an Ecutek mapper to check if the ECU has already been remapped for 2.5 engine and go from there.
It would help to know where you are in the UK to recommend a mapper.
BTW, I always understood that EJ255/ EJ257 turbo engines could be spotted (if not dismantled) by the two crank breathers while The 2.5 NA series only has one.
Both will have the EJ25 label...

this seams to have only 1 crank case breather so this is the NA then,is this block compatable with a turbo then having only 1 breather has anyone else fitted one of these blocks and for what reason,by the way im in lincolnshire i know john very well from RASP HAVE YOU HEARD OF HIM ANYONE ,he's a rally works team mechanic who has a garage in town but i know he dosnt do mapping.

" 2 litre heads on a 2.5 litre block will result in a higher compression ratio. You may need thicker head gaskets to bring this down to a sensible figure for a turbo engine eg 8:1

EJ257 blocks have 2 breathers, the blanked off plug is not a breather its oil gallery plug.

N/A 2.5 blocks have the larger breather hole open & no smaller second one at all, as in EJ20 blocks.

Does it have any cast in numbers on the block halves, like 701, 702 or 901, 902 etc.

You've got two breathers there.
As Paul has just confirmed, you've got an EJ257 from the block half numbers (on your other thread).

The block says B25C 701 ,so if your'e saying it's the EJ257 IS THIS OK TO RUN WITH A TURBO ,and not the high compression engine from a legacy ?

With those numbers its a EJ257, they don.t fit these to non turbo engines, so i would say its the right comp ratio for a turbo.
But you may have an issue with the heads, are they 2.5 or 2.0, there are variations on the 2.0 heads on compression, aswell as 2.0 heads on a 2.5 engine, these do work but you really should try to identify the heads.

If heads look like this then its a complete EJ257.

Look for the twin breathers on cam covers and the AVCS oil control valve, but it won't be used on a std MY00 ECU.
