EJ25 ENGINE SUBARU SAYS 2.5L

Hi all, i rang subaru chandlers local garage for price on some water pipes (well over price) but gave them my engine number for quotes.
Because i had technical difficuly with an issue i was passed over to the tech team,he asked what engine i had i said EJ25 of which he replied 2.5l ,i said no 20l ,is this true the EJ25 is a 2.5l not 2.0l confused.

scooby-tc 15 April 2010 03:13 PM

EJ20 is a 2.0 :D

chrisdicko 15 April 2010 03:32 PM

EJ20 is a 2litre
EJ22 is a 2.2litre
EJ25 is a 2.5litre

magneel1 15 April 2010 03:56 PM

Its a 2.5 Liter

bigarf 15 April 2010 04:00 PM

surely this is a wind up.:cuckoo:

TonyBurns 15 April 2010 04:03 PM

Did you mean an EJ205?

Tony:)

dunx 15 April 2010 04:03 PM

EJ 205 ?

HTH

leecalcars 15 April 2010 06:42 PM

No mate my vin says EJ20 but checked the block its defo EJ25 on my00 classic,so when i came to order parts the schematic drawings he sent me obviously wouldn't tally up (breather under inlet manifold) as he saw the pic i sent him via email he noticed the EJ25 on my block and said its 2.5l not 2.0l SO THATS WHAT THROUGH ME .
I'm assuming all the original componants are still fitted to the main block ie inlet manifold TD04 TURBO,ETC ETC....

Hmmm.....

Looks like someone is in breach of their T&C of their insurance ?

dunx

TonyBurns 15 April 2010 07:32 PM

Did you not check the engine number with the v5 when you bought the car
Also as Dunx has said, breach of T&C's so speak with your insurance co asap to correct the issue, but if the previous owner didnt say it has a 2.5 lump in there.... hmmmm

Tony:)

djandyg 15 April 2010 07:54 PM

Are the classic and new age 2.0 WRX engined both called 'EJ20' then? I thought the new age car had revised engines in them, did they not change the name of the engine for them?

let me retract, the car is off the road sorn what ever you want to call it while i carry out necessary repairs on the engine and bodywork,it will be off the road for a number of months untill it is road worthy again.
So before you all jump down my throat making accusations that i'm driving an illegal car that my insurance dosnt know about think again i'm a law abiding citizen and wouldn't do anything of the such, what if i hit a small child with no insurance because of undecleared mods no thanks they will be notified as and when ,but thanks for pointing that out for me !:luxhello:

Sounds suspicious as your suppose to report any change of engine, looks like the previous owner didnt, so thats now up to you to send it off to dvla to change :(
Oh and your going to need a remap, but you probably already knew that ;)

mapping is going to come once ive finished with the inlet manifold and inlet pipe ,along with a few cooling pipes that need renewing,so not really a problem ,why the remap tony may have been done before but will get it done anyway to be on the safe side.:)

No implication of illegality, just the possibility repeat, possibility of your cover being deemed in breach of contract.

Don't be quite so touchy over a little bit of free advice, meant only as a warning for your benefit...

I know a guy paying out a substantial sum each month (since 1980) due to him not knowing that the insurance terms deemed him not covered when he paralysed his mate in an accident.

Not that I'm implying you could/would take the risk.

dunx

P.S. You've got a 2.5 be happy ! :luxhello: I'd like one.... :lol1:

leecalcars 15 April 2010 10:08 PM

DO YOU WANT ONE !

leecalcars 15 April 2010 10:16 PM

Not being touchy bud,but the more i look into my car the more it suprises me ,the history i have is none existant,i now know it has a 2.5l block not sure if the heads are standered or not ,i found that there is no crankshaft breather on the EJ20 but there is one on the EJ25 so do i block this off or bodge it like it was before .
The inlet manifold is off the car at the moment as i'm awaiting info on water pipes from header tank but the breather is giving me problems checked previous posts and have read that it should be blocked off.
Why has someone put a newer block in the car and used all other parts ,why not change the complete engine cant understand !need some help on this one i think

Badbird 15 April 2010 10:24 PM

that looks like its ment to what is it you want to know?

Badbird 15 April 2010 10:31 PM

crank case breather you can just vent to atmosphere if you want, or put it in a catch can, im sure the 2.0's have a breather too just goes into the inlet hose, someone will tell me if im wrong about that, it may just be a shortblock or it may be a long engine that was replaced, dont realy matter much, it can be sorted easily as long as its all working ok,

leecalcars 15 April 2010 10:41 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Attachment 65970

As you can see in pic the open breather this was connected to a copper t piece that went via garden hose to the plastic tee on the left,so i can just blank this off then.

leecalcars 15 April 2010 10:44 PM

Anyone with a pic how it should be ,and is this only on the EJ25

Badbird 16 April 2010 11:15 AM

where does the black hose that dissapers out of the pic go?
you cant totaly block the crank case breather, it either vents into the inlet hose or you can do away with all that stuff and run a hose to a can/atmosphere straight from the breather outlet i think as standard it comes from the block into a t peice 1 hose goes into the inlet pipe and one goes to the pcv valve its a 1 way valve that i think is just under the throttle body on the intake manifold, I diddnt look at one for a while

leecalcars 17 April 2010 08:33 PM

The hose that dissapears out of view goes to the turbo intake pipe the top spout,is all this standered on both 2.0l and 2.5l then im thinking only the block has been changed but why im not sure are the EJ25 blocks cheap then is it worth selling and putting back the EJ20 .

ALi-B 17 April 2010 09:15 PM

Looks like you've got a bitsa car (made with bits off this, bits off that ). Something to keep close eye on classic imprezas these days. :(

Can't really help but I can sympathise;

My Kawasaki H1 is just that; Didn't realise until I started taking it apart :( ; Engine out of a later model yet with the older original oil pump, two original carbs, one carb off an earlier bike (and thus jetted incorrectly), Two exhaust silencers off god knows what (reproduction or maybe a KH250), and one original, one original baffle and two home made things that look like they've come out of an industrial furnace. Strangely, even with an odd carb and odd baffles/silencers it actually seemed to run ok :wonder:

leecalcars 17 April 2010 09:31 PM

im thinking sell the lot to fund a replacement/reconditioned Ej20 motor ive seen recondition for sale £995 whats your thoughts

TimH 17 April 2010 10:28 PM

I think that if you search here for SMR engines you will rather quickly change your mind ;)

GC8 17 April 2010 10:38 PM

The EJ25 engine was a 160PS/158BHP 2,457cc normally aspirated engine which was used in the BG9 Legacy (available for the 1995-1998 model years).

It looks as though this block has been used when your engine has been repaired. The capacity could depend on the crank used...
