1.2 does seem low on a built 2.5. i've heard 1.3 to be the ok on a standard ej257. as advised on here tho, speak to a mapper see what they suggest

To clarify this a bit. I'm not concerned about the top figures - I know with ~1.7bar boost I'll have +450 figures easily - no problem there. But the turbo spool up what I have now is very disappointing as on the street power down low is what matters, makes you quick and makes driving fast effortless and overtaking easy as you don't have to think what gear you are on - push the pedal and situation is over before the fellow driver even realizes what happened. Good turbo spool up was the main reason I chose the sc46 turbo -better than oem spool with plenty of extra power - and saddly this is not what I have now and for this I'm seeking advices from the experts here with hundreds of runs mapping knowledge about these engines with sc46 turbo. And for limits of the std sti 2.5l block also as my tuner haven't so vast experience on this turbo with 2.5l block(mine was/is? the first). Also what can be achieved with E85 vs v-power interest me - it should help with spool, but can it also hold the torque(limited with stock block) a little higher up in the rev range and making this way more power in safe manner without any bigger fear of e.g. cracking the block - for this would be nice to get some expert advices.

Sorry, only paper version and the funny(not really for me) or interesting story here was that I was given a dynoplot with about 500/500 figures with 1.65bar max boost and torque curve peaking little after 4000rpm(don't know which gear) - so right there in the area which I have seen there, but this was not a DD dyno so not direct match to dyno plots found here.
But anyways that plot was given to me and when I noticed already while driving back to home that this can not be a 500hp car, so at home I made several 4th gear pulls and took data out of syvecs and saw the figures: 1bar at 3400 and max boost of 1.25bar at 3800 - that confirmed my driving feelings were true, no 500 horses here.
But as I have said before maybe they are just cautious because the lack of experience on these newer 2.5l engines with sc46 level turbo and took it safe. But in this thread there should be a tons of knowledge over this so hopefully I get some advice to share with my tuners.

Can you tell me the size of the inlet on the SC36, and whether you have any 34mm restrictors for them, and if so price?

I already have my SC36- it may just get used with a little more anger

Aiboforsch,
Don't take this as a personal comment at you, but if I were you I would be taking your car to a tuner/mapper that has the experience required at this level and build spec.

The key "bit" in tuning your 2.5 safely and effectively is your mapper. In my experience you need someone that has the experience and knowledge..... if not you could pay dearly! These and many other forums are full of stories of people taking their cars to "tuners" that simply do not have the experience with these engines, which has unfortunately ended in pain and no gain.

There are plenty of "known" mappers that cover most parts of the UK.... if I were you I would use one of them.

Best of luck!

+1.

An SC46 with the correct supporting mods on a 2.5 should get 1 bar in the late 2s and be producing 450/450 comfortably with around 1.6/7 bar. If it isn't, something is wrong I'd suggest.

Unfortunately like everyone is saying the lack of experience of your mapper is most likely the reason for the poor performance.

Thanks for the replies. I agree that the reason for this +1.2bar result is the lack of experience but only concerning this "newer" 2.5l sti with sc46 capable turbo(they don't have a long(or short) term data about what these can handle safely and that's why they take it carefully and tune it down and that is why I'm here asking for advices e.g. for safe limits for the block and all) , otherwise they are very experienced in mapping and engine building, also tens of years in rally and other motorsport - no doubt about that.

And for the graph, well I have it on paper but have never driven with that almost 500/500 map(not DD dyno!) as they had tuned it down to this 1.2bar before giving the car to me - maybe with that map also the spool would have been on the level I've seen here and I wouldn't have anything but good things to write about but now I just don't know - if you look the new scooby 04's graph and move the torque curve about 500-600 rpm to the right(and little higher) - that's pretty close the graph I have but as I said already, never driven with that map.

I hoped to get also some insights of experienced mappers to my questions about turbo spool with 2.5l and sc46+syvecs, std 2.5l sti block limits(is it torque(as I assume...) rather than bhp figure what determines block limits or still bhp and values for them, possibility to add power safely with E85 vs v-power by keeping torque(limited?) up a little longer, but maybe already totally uninteresting and fully debated topics here to mappers - we will see.

Aiboforsch,
If your mapper was experienced in these engines and set-ups, he should know what the problem is or at least the area that is causing the problem with your spool.... that is our point. He certainly shouldn't need you, the customer, to go onto a public website asking for advice. Again, this is what we're alluding to here.

By the way.... a number of the "mobile" mappers on here will travel throughout Europe. That's assuming your "North" in your location is not the North Pole of anything.

Possibly if you put on your profile the country you live in rather than "North" you might get a response from a mapper that does travel outside the UK or even another mapper that is close to you.

Default SC 50 TS

Hey kev,

No data on the tS SC 50?? I figured someone would be all over it by now. I have an SC 46 with the VF waiting to go on my Built 2.5 2010 Sti. The build is taking much longer then expected... as they all do. Thinking the new housing with the bigger turbine will put it over the top!!! Or more specifically be a better match for the engine.

Thanks
Jimmy D

Hi,

Harvey is to independently test the SC50 Twin scroll as soon as he has recovered from a nasty fall which almost killed him, hence the delay.

The new 8cm housing on the SC46 is designed for bigger cc engines and is interchangeable with the 7cm version.

cheers
Kev

So it's still possible to get the 7cm version?
Advisable on a 2.1 with v4 sti heads?

Hi,

we carry both housings, the choice is then down to the customers requirements.

For better spool on a 2.1, I would go with the 7cm housing.

cheers

Just an FYI UK guys... can't do shipped.

I am going with the bigger housing.... I want to see this go to someone that wants it. No need to have a random exhaust housing laying around. We have to keep these beautiful turbos boosting!!
