RB286
99% of the time the oil/engine is fine.
But its a wise precaution - like warming the engine up gently, having a look under the bonnet regularly to spot early signs of anything not quite right and even having more gauges to monitor engine parameters. Spotting early signs of a problem can save a huge repair bill later.

Might be worth starting to check oil regularly now, as suggested in the handbook !

I've never had it in for a service since I picked it up new from dealer.

Never had oil change

don't check oil ever

After all the engine issues with the 2.5, have you had your head buried in the sand.

How long does it take to dip the oil, even for piece of mind, then to admit on a open forum the quote above, when you know IM look on here, if you have a warranty claim, which you will as you have piston land failure, & probably now weakened big ends due to lack of oil, i think you've shot yourself in the foot.

Even though I do very little miles I always make a point of looking at the oil weekly on the Hatch due to the previous shortcomings.

My Hawkeye STI on the other hand never used any oil in the 3 years I had it.

my car hasnt reachied its first years service yet which is why it hasnt been in for a service.

i always let the car warm up for 15 minutes before anything over 3k rpm's are employed, done this for every car i have ever owned.

I take it since these fit a 2005 scoob then they'll fit the hatch too?

Ok guys

NBO 8 list went live on scoobynet northern last night and captain, demise , Rob , sparky and myself have all registered
get your selves on the list and organised so the new age hatches are going to show everyone how good we are
my next worry is my vision of a new age section in the arena to show them alltogether

At the moment mine was the only one DUH
so I do need a certain commitment thar we can get at least 6-8 owners who are prepared to show in the arena for 10 minutes otherwise I will have to abandon the class
can you post on this thread if you will show at the NBO 8 so I can decide in the next 2 weeks
thanks

Please note that the rear disc on the 08+ STI are not the same as previous STIs with the same PCD and will catch on the calipers on the inside.

RB5

The dipstick only picks up the top 1.5 litres, so it's probably not that bad.

Mine's now on 24k and not using any oil at all... (t used to use a litre every 4k miles).

okay, so I'm assuming this is not looking good

started car up tomight at work, small puff of smoke

10 mins from home there's a mile straight, dropped into second from mid revs in 3rd, S# mode, manual rear diff full, rear window is tinted but i can see some smoke is definnately coming out.

doesnt seem to be doing it whilst normal driving and sitting in traffic just on idle????

any ideas?

tried contacting my dealers in Luton today to try and get in booked ini but no call back as of yet.

New Engine required or short motor assy.

I USED TO DO THIS on my other scoobs but there was never any oil level change.

I have checked oil on the hatch a couple of times but there hadnt been any falls in level.

i can only imagine this oil loss has happened since it started smoking last wed/thursday

I thought the METASAT was different in that they don't notify you when the car has been nicked you have to notify them therefore the fact its moving without the keys won't make any difference as you talk to the car via your phone and not to them. Be interesting to know if I have got the wrong end of the stick?

Given the sponsors of the car care section use it, I should think so.

Metasat tells you whewre the car is, speed it's doing wtc. when you ask it via mobile, BUT it DOES tell you when it is tampered with, or battery removed etc.

I know to my cost. but the thieves had the keys from the house....

I am not sure if it detects being on a trailer... maybe if no keys in it???
