08/09 Hatches, Stand up and show yourselves!!!
I'll be changing the oil in Jan for is its usual 6 month change, last time I just drained (mostly over the floor), removed filter, greased new one and replaced and then filled with oil, just as I have done with all cars in the past.
However just read this on another thread, is this true??
"fill the oil filter, unplug the crank sensor, crank it over for 10sec this will prime the oil pressure. then check level, do again if necessary. plug sensor back in and start as normal"
Do you have to do this, is it essential??
Thanks
Arron

been looking at the tyre size 245 40 18s on kwik fit website....
anyone used these.... Marangoni Mythos tyres.. £110 each.. or 4x £93.50
reason i ask is I see this make advertised over in Tenerife at tyre fitting centres,
wondered who makes them.

to be honest I wouldnt personally use a non known brand on my car. not being snobby or anything i just dont rate cheap tyres on a car which is worth a bit of money. i see it as you either spend on a decent tyre grip and go round the corner or skimp on costs and just slide into a ditch lol

Got a rear puncture the other week and tyre was non repairable, gutted as still had 5mm left on it. Had a couple of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's fitted.
seen continenal contact sport 3 on the car I look at last week, my wife has them on her car, found those to be a good tyre.. and last a while too. they're about £165 a corner in 245/40/18 size.... she pays about £110 215/50/17s.
Car had it's first MOT yesterday and passed with flying colours.
Officially 3 years old and out of warranty this comming Sunday - do I have the oldest STi hatch in the UK?
MOT tester is also a scooby man and I'm sure he would be tickled to know he's done the first ever MOT on an STi hatch!
Please post up if you know of any older.
Cheers, Neil

ok this is a first for me....
got up, shower, toast, wash car, off to work
I just had to clean the thing. The wheels were black and they should have been white
Just hope the snow holds off, as it is upgrade day tomorrow

THREE QUESTIONS:
If I go for a Std WRX STi, can you still ge the dealer to PPP it for £1995? (wheels/remap/etc.. or what ever you get done for the PPP pack)
NEXT:
are all the cars from 2008-2010.. all MY2008 cars?
IE: you can buy a 2010 car (59/10/60 plate car) but the year it was first made could it still be a 2008 car?
Or is there a slight 'spec/design' change between each year so you could tell?
(as 2011 cars a bit different)
last question:
does anyone know how many cars were 'made' and sold in the UK 2008-2010... and how many there are in each colour?
as I can't believe there are so many reds for sale ('pre' 10/60reg too)
and hardly any White cars seem to be for sale.
Phil

I'll leave all the rest of the questions to someone who knows

Now onto mine after the day of upgrades.
I had decided to get all the work done by Westaways in Northampton, because I was impressed by their service and support when I purchased the car 2 months or so ago.
I left the house in Newport with it hammering down with snow thinking, 'man I must be crazy going out in this', but the concerns were alleviated when I got over the bridge as it just seemed to stop (confirms the always rains in Wales). I left at stupid o'clock as I wanted to miss all the 'nutters' and get to Westaways for opening time at 8-8:30 am. I got the timing somewhat out, started the day at 4am and ended up arriving at 7am

I didn't get any pics or get to see the work being done which was a bit of a shame, but I felt the car was in good hands out back in the workshop, so I sat in the dealership doing some work (faffing) on the laptop. John, Brian and Ian were plying me with coffee during the day, and we were generally setting the world to rights with the natter about everything from GT5 to the intricacies of 'the customer' in the retail environment.
The car was having the PPP kit, Prodrive springs and a quickshift fitted. They also managed to do a 3000 mile oil change, and look at a couple of things that needed a 'tweak'.
At about 3pm ish everything was done, and it came back in from its road test. The lads then proceded to give it wash and it was parked out side. John who also drives his own hatch went out for a 'feel' of the quickshift and came back in with a smile and confirmation that it 'feels great'.
Now, onto the bit which really made my day. I said my goodbyes and thanks and sat in the car for a while sorting out my iphone gps. Everyone from the dealership had come to the window to see the car drive off, because damn, it looked
after its wash, sat on its rota gtr's (thanks Maggs
). I drove off grinning to myself that the peeps behind the window like the car as much as I do I dont know what these 400bhp+ cars are like, but damn me, the car as it is now seems to have sick power. I had to take it easy on the back lanes because of all the ice/snow but the pull that it has in 4th/5th/6th is just crazy on the motorway, just crazy. An extract of some text I sent to my bro when I got back over skype (as you can tell from the way I was talking, I was a tad happy
) :'er, seems to have stupid power tbh.. pulls a fuggin wheely'
'you'll have to try it, the throttle has totally changed in S mode it seems, 1st half pedal seems a like there is nothing, then get to about half then bam, all hell breaks loose'
'power delivery.. in 4th or 5th and it just pulls, like 'woah, something is gonna blow at this rate''
The sound from the exhaust is nice too. Has actually given the car a voice, as it was silent before.
Compared to a PPP kit I had on my MY03 sti uk, this seems to have transformed the power delivery for some reason. I never really felt that it was worth the £ with the MY03 as it didn't seem to do a great deal, but my initial impressions of this one on the hatch is that if the warranty needs to remain, as it does in my case, then it is 110% worth it.
The springs have obviously got to settle over the next couple of weeks and then i'll get the geometry done (with some arb's etc), but first impressions are that it is firmer for sure, and doesn't seem to wobble or bounce as much. I'll get a better feel for them over the coming weeks.
The quickshift has made a slight difference to the shift, but not a massive change. Front to back is probably about two thirds of the original throw from 3rd to 4th I would say, but it feels tighter, and more direct.
Sorry for the essay, but I just had to let you all know

Cheers again to the guys up at Westaways for once again doing a cracking job. To top it all off and put the icing on the cake, they even got me a bag of chips for lunch

Richie.

The last offer from subaru which I think is still standing is the 330r package which takes a std sti and fits the 18" wheels and the ppp kit F.O.C
any cars sold now are not 2008 models they were all continous up until 2010 only real update was the software in the ecu. the sti is one of the few that hasnt been parked up until it was sold because all units that came over were allready allocated to dealer stocks. we've got one brand new 2010 car left in red sat in the showroom for £26k

cheapest I've seen a new pre/reg RED Sti is at HAMMONDS for just over £23k!!

so you're saying the pre reg cars sold in 2010 won't be 2008 cars?
thats pre registered car though, ours is brand new unregistered sat with no plates on and the warrenty hasnt even been activated on it. lol
pre registered cars for 2010 wont be 08 cars I can assure you of that.
