The "black bit" isn't a seperate part.

Looks like I might have to fill and paint or look at other options.

noticed the top end a little more tappy then usual yesterday on way home from work.

checked oil earlier, the dipstick is bone dry?!?!?!?!

engine done 7500 miles, is this a sign of something bad?

looked around engine but cant see any kind of oil leak or sign where oil could be going, or is it purely just been burnt off due to new engine and me not keeping an eye on levels?

on a seperate issue, yesterday morning i ran the car very low with the intention to stick Optimax in for the first time (been using Sainsbury's SUL since I've had it)

started it up to leave work last night and a huge plum of smoke wafted from the zorsts, the same thing has haapened the last few times its started, running and driving as usual there's nothing coming out.

Drumsterphil reckons its the optimax cleaning agaents removing all the carbon on the pistons from the previous fuel?

anyone else ever noticed this?

It's not the colour guys - they don't fit with the under spoiler on the car - you'd need to trim them.

I'm thinking trimming them and painting matt black tho

Default Ohh, What's occurring?

Mark

Doesn't sound good.
Was Oil OK when you picked it up, have you ever checked it? Not had oil changed since running in?

If lots of blue smoke from exhausts it indicates oil is being burnt, so oil is getting into the bores. Usually piston ring ( possible piston ) damage. OR oil is passing the valve stem seals and sitting behind the valves / in bore and then plops in when the engine is started, hence the plume.

Get some one to follow you, and see if it occurs when you boot it and go on boost, and if occurs when you lift off. Also when you have been idling at lights / roundabout or similar and accelerator off normally.

***Might*** be the optimax burning off carbon deposits... no idea what Sainbury's Super UL is like, I opnly use Optimax ( Esso Super if stuck! or Tesco 97 ). Then it will stop in a few days I guess. How do the shiney tips of the exhausts look? Hard or soft deposits?

If it doesn't stop I suggest a visit top the dealer under warranty.

Seems strange puffs of smoke started same day I put optimax in

no smoke from idle. Flooring it. Revving it.

Not blue smoke. More grey/White and not thick

I find I have to check my oil quite often - it uses a couple of litres between services.

With the 2.5 engine my dealer has told me to keep a check on the oil as the boxer engine does drink it and will need topping up between services depending on mileage you do.

Don't use Sainsbury's SUL, even though it's only round the corner from where i live because they have had water in the SUL. maybe due to condensation or the fact they don't sell a lot of the stuff, whatever, i don't take the chance.

I checked my oil each month and been OK, but only 4.5k miles on it and not checked this month!

White smoke - more indicative of water in exhaust .. head gasket failure???

Hopefully it is just the change of fuel, but should not last long in that case.

It should be second nature to check oil weekly with any performance car.

I checked the oil on mine fortnightly, it never used any in 2yrs, apart from service. Mind you it only did 2500mls in a year.
