Yeah, thats what I was thinking Mark. Might save the extra and just go for some carbon bling in the engine bay
Wondering how many grilles you have, you've covered 1 and sent 1 to me, just rather cheekily wondered if they were 1 and the same.

Didn't know you had 2 different styles!! TBH either is good by me, anything beats the heap the cars wearing at the moment.
The bar one will keep it looking stock at first glance too, always a bonus.

squeaky rear end
As I said in an earlier post there is a creaking noise coming from the rear of the car since I had the whiteline ARB's installed.
Annoyingly it is only the driver seat that does this, and then only when I sit in it, hence it must be me.
Either that or one of my childrens squealy toys has got lodged under the seat.

So far two votes for ferodos. Any more?
Hi mate,
I noticed mine made quite a pronounced annoying squeak/rattle when going over terrain changes diagonally. I often have my back seats down to transport stuff and had noticed that the noise was not there then. I took all my rear bench seats apart looking for a stiff joint or something that would make the noise.
In the end I traced it to the latches that hold the seats upright to the chassis. I wrapped some electrical tape around the pins that the latch catches on and the noise was gone Not ideal I know, but it worked. The latch wears through the tape and putting the seats up and down regularly only speeds this up but I just replace it now and then.
Hope this helps
Ben
I posted this to you a couple of pages ago. Try folding down the rear seats and see if it still happens.

Finally had some time to 'try' and capture the sound... Will try to make another soon with a descent camera!
In the video, I'm driving over severel small holes (3) in the road. But you can here it also when you ride over 'the tar between the concrete plates'
Don't know if anyone will understand me but I'm doing my best (I'm from Belgium btw). The sound comes from the left side (Left Handed car here), I think somewhere arround the hood release orso...
YouTube - Noise
You can hear it very good at 8 seconds, just small bumps in the road makes this sound, comes from the left in dash

I wouldnt use it, its quite a free flowing filter on that, that lets a lot of particles through, this was certainly the case with the one they designed for the older cars.
I am currently designing and building a K&N intake and enclosed air box for my hatch, and once tested, it will be available to order.

The 2 layer foam is really drag use only I'd say (even though a lot use it on the road) as Steven says the 2 layer lets through a lot of stuff.

i use the Forge cai from Iain Litchfield. nice piece of kit and the filter is shielded away in the inner wing, away from the heat of the engine bay. When fitting a CAI it is recommended you get it mapped, so i was told.

It's gone....
Hi all
After the engine starting making the wrong sort of noises nigh on 3 weeks ago now I have had some tough decisions to make as to what would be progress.
I discovered much to my horror that my euro spec sti hadn't been registered with Subaru Uk (thanks to Motor Depot who told me it had been). Then of course we have to register by letter, and ring back after 10 working days to see what sort of warranty they would offer me.
Added to this the uk subaru dealer who I had asked to assist me start all the ' o you shouldn't have bought an import crap' - this may cost you etc etc.
So i cancelled them picking up the car and inspecting it and made some enquiries.....
So option 1 - was to have my engine 'repaired' by Subaru with maybe a new piston only or a short block (which I didnt see them giving me as an import - I serviced at 9k and apparently my import car should have been serviced at 7.5k according to Cyprus warranty...).
Or... option 2 - private rebuild.
So after some agonising moments - my baby was taken away today by Martyn from Enginetuner garage in Devon - famed for their 2.1 forged builds - and involved in recent development work with new hatch (with 2 of the biggest players in Subaru tuning etc ) for a makeover.
New spec will be forged wiseco pistons, K1 rods, Cossie main bearings and head gaskets, ARP studs etc, RCM super dooper oil pump and some other odds and ends.
Meaning it'll be a forged bottom end capable of 500hp.
Leaving plenty of scope for next steps and no worries about the new hyperneuticrap 'chocolate' pistons subaru now use.
Although this isn't the ideal timing for such a build - I'm glad its gone to maybe one of the best engine shops in the country run by Martyns dad - Alan Jeffrey. Guaranteeing a 'proper build' and not just a cheap fix.
So come 3 weeks time I hope it'll be back and being run in - awaiting some 'more mods'. Funnily enough until then it'll be absolutely standard power - sorta seems wrong on forged internals eh ?
Keep all posted.... APOSTLE
FWIW - another silver hatch is in their garage "now" getting the same treatment - anyone from here ?

Hi Apostle
Did you have the ECU update done?
Got mine from Motor Depot and I'm still waiting for my warranty to be sorted nearly a year on!
The problem is Subaru Cyprus has stopped trading so there is no original Subaru dealer to register the warranty with the IM in the UK.

When mine went (like yours) I begged the dealer/Subaru UK to let me replace the pistons/rods in the replacement short block with forged items, they insisted this would invalidate my warranty and refused to do it...at least now you have a bullet proof bottom end mate. If I am honest I still always think when I floor it that somethings going to give up/break any second, not a good feeeling in a car that was supposed to be made to be driven hard!

Keep us posted on how it goes mate, you know there are a few of us that are seriously thinking about this next step, so it would be great to see what you recommend and how it all goes (? project thread over on Subaru GR Series Hatch Discussion (2008+))
