Would this not be a problem with all dual exit back boxes??
Or depend on internal construction?
On my Milltek back box the left-hand side exit pipes are always much more dirty/used than the right ones. This suggests that most of the exhaust gases are either taking the shortest route through the rear back box or the internal design favours the left-hand side. When we were mapping it would occasionally run lean, then rich on the same settings, this was put down to the rear back box mucking about with the exhaust gases

In answer to your question about this being a problem (i.e. gas flow being erratic sometimes) with all dual exit back boxes.

I'm no expert, but I would say yes, but it's really not a big problem (unless you plan to run 450bhp+). A single exit back box would be best as it saves weight, is simpler and would increase flow rates a bit (that’s why the WRC & Group N hatch STI are single exit). But to be fair I like the look of the quad tailpipes and mappers can work around it easily. Plus I love how quiet but fruity the Milltek system is and I can't see me having any real problems with it, even when I start going for around 450bhp (with forged internals etc.). I know Ian (Litchfield Imports) has run these sorts of power figures without any problems...

A have noticed different exhaust makers have come up with different designs/solutions for the twin exit on the hatch. For example the Hayward & Scott one springs to mind, it has a Y-pipe and then two separate back boxes (one for each side). This also seems to be a popular design in the USA & Japan.

Mines not mapped yet, post map will be 341 lbs/ft.

My problem is, that BM really did show a clean set of heels, so I'd like to be able to play with them (sleeperish). So that means trying for 440 lbs/ft.

I got my RCM one back at the weekend, and will be fitting it shortly, and having the car remapped again to check everything is ok.

As a rule of Thumb Paul, I paid Iain £250 for the backbox and decat front section. So I'd say £150 is a fair price for the prodrive BB, even if it's just for the cosmetic touch (those chrome tips are so much nicer than the OEM tips).

(I'd have paid £150-£200 because they do not come up often, plus Subaru quoted £550!)

Good luck with that Simon

(You may need to wait for Subaru to release a 3.0L H6 Diesel 1st)

That's good to know Rob (I was going to ask you what system you were running).. So the Y branch on the H & S works well with the decat .. useful info for some others on here I hope

If my maths is correct (which I doubt) Then I only need a 75 bhp increase to get there.

But as we all know with tuning, that 75bhp could cost me 10k!!

Don't know about diesels, but the car mags ( Well, Top Gear anyway! ) have some plug in box of electronics for diesels that are supposed to give 40% more power and torque?
I assume some sort of ECU piggyback electronics to alter fuel or injection timing?

No idea what's in them or how they work ..... would they be of any use?

The remap Iain offers is a Ecutek unit, and given the results / experiance this company has I'm inclined to trust my engine to them.

Still I will have to wait and see. This car aint a year old yet and I'm still paying for it, and I dont think the parents would be to happy if I blew it up.

Managed to strip the STi decals from the mud flaps and attach WRXS decals.
The problem is that WRXS accessories are not readily available.
Next on the agenda is a WRXS grill badge. I've got the base, just need the self adhesive decal to lay over the top.

Looks great! Prodrive back box too is that a STI rear bumper to take the exhaust?

Silver Demon
STi rear diffuser/ bumper comes as standard with the WRXS (along with several other items), only the near side hole is filled in. It simply needs to be cut out to take the quad pipe.

Thanks !

Had the same flow characteristics with the OEM backbox, Outside 2 got darker than inside 2... on the prodrive one they all seam to be equal so far.

Sorry about pic quality, I-phone camera is next to useless

Guys

I have a set of 4 of these brand new in pack (except the one I opened to photograph!). They are absolutely stunning to look at and give a great 3D effect to the STi logo.

These are a genuine Subaru item - part code 28821FE141 (CENTER CAP AY).

Please note they don't fit Prodrive GT1 wheels as i've found out to my cost!

Please let me know if you are interested.

Cheers,

Alan

Well, I had a visit from Duncan (Dynamix) on Friday and all I can say is money well spent, car boosts all the way to the red line now and 3rd gear is a dream, I find myself wanting to drive everywhere in the one gear! 4th and 5th are also up and motorway overtaking is much improved.

I fitted a 2nd decat pipe along with a Cosworth filter and from what the laptop was showing the new filter is a massive improvement on oe one.

Power is looking to be in low to mid 340's but rolling road session at some point will let me know for sure, all I can say though is that the driving experience is excellent compared to a standard STI.

Really enjoyed the process of power runs etc and for anyone not sure, Duncan is your man, things were getting a bit quick though as we were getting the map finished for full throttal in 5th!

My wife had a go on Sat night and said it was ok but car was pretty quick before, then told her to put her foot to the floor in 3rd from about 3k revs, she was screaming all the way to about 70 and then agreed it was now FAST!!!

Anyway, cheers Duncan and you may be getting a call from my neigbour for his 07 STI this week.

Cheers
A

Glad you like the improvement Arron.. it's all grins from now on

I took mine up to Brum over the weekend...mental.. took a friend out (who has an S3) and he could not believe how much quicker it was since the re-map..

I find myself hitting the rev alarm (set at 6.5k) all the time now... never used to before! just pulls and pulls...

My alarm is set at 5.5k so by the time I see/hear it and I've changed its nearing 6.5k.

Took my bro inlaw out and let him have a go at the weekend and he too was very impressed, also set my first car alarm off in it at the weekend reversing out of a space, the new decat has certainly released a few db's from the exhaust!

Must also say Duncans car looked the business sitting outside my house, certainly got the neighbours talking!

I used to think it was just a characteristic of the 2.5L lump... It's now like my old blob... with a little more torque thrown in...

How's yours going Lee?

It going great thanks mate. keep having crazy thoughts tho!! Want to get into trackdays so been thinking get rid of the hatch and get an older type 25/spec c, think it would be a shame to track the hatch. but to be fair the hatch is such a good car away from the track, shopping/school/the odd blast, always stops me. even thought about Evo MR but lookswise and interiorwise dont think either are as good loking as the 08 STi. Dont get me wrong, always loved the blobeye and the evo 8. So at the minute im past getting rid, again, and am happy for now. Cant afford to go mad engine wise, not that i need to. Thought about full decat cos that summat i havent done
How you liking the drive now then?

I'm the same as you... I look at the Evo VII and VIII and think hmmm nice... then they do an internal shot, and I think yuk black plastic and crappy steering wheel... the 2 tone grey interior and wheel of the hatch just looks so much nicer.

De-cat would be nice.... get somewhere near Rob's 380 would be mental... not sure I could live with everything that goes with a de-cat though.... noise...etc..

Keep the hatch, buy a caterham 7... job done..

Yes I'm loving the car since Dunc mapped it.... It's so deceptively quick now.... I'm finding I'm starting to drive it like my old blob... ...before I'd got to the point I was driving it like a diesel!.. it was so flat above 5.5k... not any more!
