Where did you get hold of the litchfield power steering pump and how much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking (new or second hand)?

@matt-c was selling it on here as he upgraded to later MY15 rack & matched pump in his hatch - think it was about £125 delivered iirc

I'll probably make this a separate thread, but asking for advice from the hatches first; hopefully in the winter I'll be able to develop my spec c another step up, but I'm keen to keep both the true twinscroll ( plus it's spool) and the tmic. I'm not chasing numbers, just twisty road blasting and then aiming to hill climb.
So what I'm thinking of is a vf53 rebuild, porting, and billet wheels, and water/ meth injection, and possibly some head work. Is this a sensible route, and what other factors do I need to consider?
The injection route appeals due to the lower temps and safety margins, plus the ability to use lower grade fuel aboard or in future.
Would I need an aftermarket ECU for example?
Thanks

can you guys help me with some information please, I'm trying to locate a complete list of what upgrades / differences the CS400 has over the standard model. I know the obvious stuff:
Brakes
Suspension,
Cosmetics: wheels / mid spoiler
different turbo (does it share the same location as a standard STI?)
uprated engine internals
Cosworth cone intake
interior

But what about radiators? and any other front end components? I see it still has a TMIC. is there anything else I'm missing?

long story short - after a few years away, I've bought another Hatch STI, this time its a CS400 BUT it is in need of some serious TLC - Its been in a front end smash. Im planning on keeping this one long term. So I'm trying to figure out which parts I can just take from a standard hatch STI. Unfortunately the insurers (or someone else) has taken most of the front end apart to assess the impact, so I'm not sure at this stage what exactly is missing (aside from the obvious radiators and body panels.
thanks in advance.

Front end wise, they threw the whole Zunsport mesh package at it
Grill is sti with black bar along top
Fog light grills are black also

Radiator is the same as sti

Intake is an AEM intake, into silicone inlet

Turbo is gt3071r hybrid which uses it's own specific headers, up pipe and down pipe you cannot use std sti items as there is a very slight rotation in turbo to stop it fouling on throttle body

Brakes AP Racing
Wheels Team Dynamics pro race 1.3 but custom made with no team dynamics markings 18x8.5 et42
Suspension. Bilstein Eibach coilovers. Fixed platform front, adjustable rear
Exhaust Custom made 3" system

Confession time, I'd already bought the pitch stop, but when putting in on earlier I had a sudden panic when I saw how much more solid it was vs the original item.
I didn't want loads of NVH.

Anyway, it's on and I have to say, it's made a huge difference.

Transitions between on and off throttle, pulling off, gear changes all feel much nicer.

Maybe my standard pitch stop was badly worn, but this is a BIG improvement, I wish I'd done this a long time ago.

Results may vary, but for those who have more aggressive clutch / flywheel setups i can't recommend this enough, it's a no brainer.

After reading your post, got an aluminium pitch stop. More solid than the original plastic Subaru pitch stop. On inspection of the original, there was a couple mm's of play in the end attached to bulkhead. Since fitting new one, engine judder at low speeds, ie. Crawling in traffic, has gone, & I'm finding a smoother gear change, ride, etc.

Good to hear Fergal.

I’m loving mine and am going to go further with uprated transmission mount, rear diff inserts and engine mounts.

That lot together should give the driveline a totally hooked up feeling, although bound to introduce some harshness I think it will be worth it.

And so it begins, the car turned up today. Only had time to have a quick look through it before heading to work...

So here are the nice pics I have of it:

So, as I mentioned its had a front impact. It's been stripped to assess the damage or maybe they were going to repair it and then decided not to.

Most parts were in the boot: from the damage to the slam panel and radiators it doesn't look that heavy in my opinion

Slam panel and bumper bar in this pic. Will get better pics when I get a chance

And here's how it sits right now:

The timing belt covers had been removed, it looks like the exhaust pipe with the jacket / heat shield on it has melted the rear section of the timing cover and the wires to two sensors on that side. The heat shield thing (does anyone know its proper name?) Isnt actually in contact with anything else. So I'm not sure how its managed to melt the plastic. Does anyone have a pic of how far is should be from the oil cooler and plastic cover? Also how long is this section of wire?

I wont be cutting any corners, so going to see how much of the loom section I need to buy and only join using OEM connectors.

The rest of it looks like an easy enough repair, I was worried that the headlight washers and piping, plugs etc would be missing but it's all there in the boot.

The only thing I'm annoyed about at the mo is that the cosworth metal badge / plinth appears to have been removed from the slam panel! Is that the only place they were numbered?

Anyway, thoughts, comments, advice welcome

Thanks

Imy, before you start, have you done proper measurements on a jig? They may have found something that made them stop? Cracking project....Bulldog on here had a red one.

Thanks, yeah I saw that - I've already got a standard STI bonnet inc scoop etc. The plan is to keep the car stock really, if the bonnet was a bit cheaper maybe I'd have been tempted.

not been able to find this anywhere online, I guess the dealers may be able to source it?

Sorry, I should have clarified - I'm not repairing it myself. I will source the bits, probably get someone to come do the timing belt and pulleys while its all open. Then it's going to a bodyshop that will check the measurements and jig / straighten it if required - they will also be replacing the front panel etc and getting everything aligned.... finally it will then go to a friends paint booth.

I'll replace the wiring loom myself, test fit the radiator / fans / ac and strip it down further to see if it needs the manifold replacing.

The dealers have to request it from Cosworth - its worth dropping Cosworth an email directly - they where more than helpful when i was looking information on the exhaust & suspension which i retrofitted to my 330s

The only thing is Cosworth had a massive clearout of subaru CS400 parts recently - they where all auctioned off, so you may find it hard to get replacement bespoke parts

I would check the cam pulley, it looks like its taken a hit, they are prone to shear the cam caps & damage the thrust flange on the cam, taking the cam cover off will show any issues.

I've located an airbag kit from an STI, now I've replaced a fair few airbags on Honda's. Toyota's and some German cars and usually replace the airbag ECU at the same time, which clears any fault. With Subaru I've noticed, none of the breakers seem to provide an airbag ECU, is this because it can be easily reset using a computer / snap-on or some pin combination? or should I hold out for someone offering a kit with the ECU too?

Also, what timing belt kit does everyone use on these engines? should I just get the cosworth one? what else gets replaced at the same time?

Thanks, will ask my mechanic friend to check when he does the timing belt. I genuinely don't think the impact went that far back. Looking at the state of the panels that have come off the car.
