Funnily enough I have just ordered last 2M of it they had in stock!!

trade price, its £64.01 +delivery +vat for 1M x 1.524M = £86.42

but you could always sell on section you dont use. look on ebay at prices, lol

however, if you wanted to buy half section from me that should be enough to do the grille

PM me if you're interested in buying some

well it should be but they make the rules up as they go along

probably blame it on the prodrive exhaust this time lol

cars all legit, all approved parts on it so will have to see

Chirpy AA men been and diagnosed it as crankshaft, nasty knocking noise on start up

The other way to look at it is that if the car's nearing the end of it's warranty period then a rebuilt motor is no bad thing - assuming IM agree to the rebuild of course and if it's all stock or approved parts fitted I can't see why they wouldn't.

Personally, I'd use the opportunity to (at the very least) fit a decent set of forged pistons.

Best of luck anyway mate and I hope you get the right outcome.

Neil.

I think that with moving house in the next 2 months, insurance looks like it will hike up due to postcode and me almost doubling fuel costs its time to definately part with it

I have been very lucky and offered a choice of a 500bhp RB5 or discovery to drive back from newcastle this w/e (was going up there anyway so seems kinda fate its happened now!!!

I dont want to, more to the point, dont have the money to pay for decent pistons, not that it would make any difference as its the crankshaft thats gone lol

i dont want to get rid of it, i love it but sensible head says otherwise

Bloody hell Mark! thats shocking. I don't blame you for wanting shot of, between choclate pistons and busted cranks, that car's been shocking and not fit for purpose.

If it's crank related then engine would need to come out, get stripped down and then rebuilt so that would be the time to fit decent forged pistons - and Mahles can be had for under £400. But, fair point mate, if you're geting rid anyway then no point in spending more to future proof it.

Am I right in saying that your car had a set of warranty pistons earlier in it's life? Reason I ask is mine had a set of pistons early in it's life and when I had the engine built after the warranty ran out, on strip down all the big ends were on the cusp of catastrophic failure. I can't remember the specifics but the thinking was that the earlier piston failure had allowed the bearings to momentarily 'pick up' leading to the premature wear. I've still got the original bearing shells and quite frankly it's astonishing that the car still ran and was completely asymptomatic! The car had 28K on it at the time.

I’ve always worried with blown engines that during the initial failure huge stress is put on parts not replaced when rebuilt, then later down the line they fail and cause another failure!

I’m finally a married man so should very soon be in the market to seriously look for a 2nd hand MY11. I prefer a hatch but ouch there are like only 4 for sale between AutoTrader, PH & Subaru.co.uk and none in my preferred colours of white & silver in my budget.

So if anyone is thinking of selling or knows someone who is then let me know. Otherwise I may have to start thinking about a saloon.

White / Silver MY11 WRX STi Hatch
Preferably with 320R pack fitted
£24k is my budget

Btw does anyone have a soundclip of the exhaust note with the 340r scorpion box fitted?

I'm assuming they would rebuild the existing engine and not just fit a new engine?

Rob would you know if it is diagnosed as the crankshaft (certainy sounds that way)

P1, that Plasma Blue one on the Subaru site looks nice, that or buy my Spark Silver MY08 and put on a MY11 bumper on and some Recaro CS seats and still have pleanty of change!!

Only kidding, seriously though I'd be selling about now if I could find anything as good as the hatch to replace it with so you will not be dissapointed when you eventually find one to your spec!!

If they want a sale they may deliver to your local dealer? I had a 12hr round trip to get mine as they were as rare as **** second hand in 2009.

If theres no damage to the engine casings then it would be a parts rebuild.
The only time you get a short motor is if there is extensive bore damage.

If I recall correctly didn't you have issue's with the warranty on the previous engine & didn't they agree as a gesture of goodwill ?? or am I thinking of someone else. You may struggle to get a claim from a gesture of goodwill.

GRP = glass reinforced plastic, erm isn't that fibre glass!

ABS is OK but still cracks if kerbed, the PU ones are more flexible and more likely to survive unless really belted!

Sorry to heart that your engine has failed, having just been through the same with IM/Subaru I expect you to have a fight on your hands.

My Car 2010 STI 330S owned from new, with full Subaru service centre service history was taken to a Dealer just before Christmas with suspected Head Gasket failure. The Car had done 28,000 miles and I had been watching it for for a while as I suspected it was running Hot.

The car was road tested and the Dealer said as I did it seemed to be running hot, engine was the compression test and found to be low on the drivers side. Subaru/IM then gave the go ahead to remove the engine, when the engine was removed they started to strip it down to find it had got very hot. Driver's side Head Gasket had failed but it was then decided to strip the bottom end due to the amount of heat that the engine had been submitted too. On removing the pistons they looked ok and not suffering from the dreaded ring land failure, but when the crank was removed they found the shells had picked up.

Subaru then sent an engineer to inspect the engine, this is when I lost all confidence in Subaru/IM.
Engineers report said that the engine failure was down to Oil starvation and that I had run it low/out of Oil end result we are not paying, after a fair few weeks ang a lot of phone calls from the Dealer and a number by myself dare I say they agreed to another good will gesture.

Pictures of the engine,

well an early start ready for my trip to andy f, and a couple of rounds of golf whilst up there.
had the sports downpipe and aem caik fitted this week and along with the magnaflow exhaust i am hoping for some nice figures, the added toys from the racerom map along with a bit more confidence in protecting the engine.
anyone car to guess what numbers she will achieve?

carlos..

Not sure you'll be doing much golfing mate, it's absolutely tipping it down here this morning! Should be a fun day with Andy whatever.

As for figures, I'll go with 370 and 400.

Cheers, Neil

With the two new failures I need to ask what oil do you guys recommend using?

just the engine let go on my 330s 4k before I bought it which was replaced under warranty so think i should keep an eye on the levels
