I asked at the time of Service in November if there were any 'flash updates' needed, to be told that there wasn't any new ones for the car, as they had been done. (if that makes sense).

The hawkeye suffers headgasket issue's due to the thin wall of the bore and the rather larger openings on the cylinder head, This has been know to be rectified with better gaskets and a headstud kit, Also they tend to blow ringlands just the same as the hatch.
The hatch engine block is the same as the hawk and the same in the current sti, the cylinder heads are different to that of a hawkeye as they are dual avcs and have smaller openings on the water chamber on the cylinder head to combat the issue I suspect.
its a glitch in the ecu on the hatch around 5000 rpm or there abouts which has been known to cause the issue of detonation, hence why a custom map seems to make the engine last that much longer. There was a reflash file available for the early hatches to soften the rev limiter ( FuelCut limiter) as all it did was shut the injectors off which was causing abnormal combustion at top end and closing the throttle butterfly to try and richen the mix up.

I loved the refinement in the 05 type 25, so any blob or hawk owners who made the change how do you find them?

Well even the 2008-2010 cars were supposed to be have had a reflash to solve the problem (that didn’t exist) but not sure how that was done ie only on request?
I’ve not heard of any 2011 cars go pop but then we are still early doors and not the type of car that people tend to do high mileage in.
I personally prefer the look of the 2011 front end (yes you can change it but at cost) and you get the benefit of a longer warranty hopefully. I note that Rob said to keep off the rev limiter as they don’t like it. Might be trickier for me as currently driving a Civic Type R – in my last 320R test drive I hit the limiter as so used to ragging the VTEC.

IMO the 330s isn't a MY11, so shouldn't be made to look like one.. just my thought. So £1500 could be better spent on brakes.... or 19" alloys/tyres

Well yesterday I had the pleasure of test driving a 2008 sti completely standard, a 56 plate sti running around 330 bhp and a 2010 plate 330s. Ok so I have to say I was not that impressed with the 08 plate i felt really unattached to the car (if that makes sense) the steering felt loose and unresponsive like there was a point between the centre point of the steering wheel to say an inch or more either side where there seemed a delay in the movent of the steering wheel unroll the nose of the car pointed in. Also found it very bouncy / boaty whilst on the back rounds. It didn't fill me with confidence if any of that makes sense.
Next up I decided to try the Hawkeye as I've never driven one (last newage was a wide track mk1 t25) I got behined the wheel and straight away the car felt more stable, more planted and the moment I turned the wheel the nose of the car pitched straight in, it felt some much more reposnsive I felt more in the car rather than on it like I did in the 08 plate.
Next up was the 330s and after the 08 sti I wasn't expecting much but I was plesently supprised. This one was on the 19" prodrive gt1 alloys along with the factory tints and the prodrive springs and front dogs it looked so much better. Opening the door the cabin was a nicer place to be, the little touches like push button start, factory sat nav and those recaro's looked so inviting and were so much better to sit in, the support from them was great. The drive felt more positive to, it felt more planted to the road and the steering still not as sharp as the Hawkeye but still loads better than the 08 sti. Shocked in the fact that a simple spring change and larger wheels made so much difference.
I would imagine a rear anti roll bar and drop links may tighten it up more ? Or I'm aware that there are some eibach springs which drop it a little more may just do the trick.
Any how now I'm stuck as the Hawkeye is under half the price but I'm drawn to the look of the hatch with a front lip spoiler and a few cosmetic tweaks they look stunning plus in my view its a little more grown up, oh and I love those recaro seats and all the other factory 330s toys.
think its time to make a decision.
On a side note anyone got any tips to get the steering sharper?
Cheers

No diff in suspension between the 08 and the 330, it's just the 330 you drove has the Prodrive springs fitted as an option so a bog standard STI with the springs will feel the same, that is assuming both have 18's.
Eiback springs are same as Prodrive IIRC.
As for steering feel, the Litchfield steering pump mod should sort you out for not much £'s on either model.
