I've been quoted £1800, but I had to supply the forged pistons (Dunc at Dynamix had a spare set of Cosworth pistons going cheap at the time).

To be quite honest, the re-map has set my mind at rest, reading through the USA threads it's the standard map combined with the pistons that's caused the problems. By getting the car custom mapped and eradicate the DET problem, the OEM pistons seam to be holding up (as long as you do not push power past the 355 level).

If I was chasing 370bhp+ I'd get the pistons replaced...otherwise it's staying like it is.

More aerodynamic with the smaller mirrors

I used a relay system to wire them both up & used heavy guage wires for them, But i'm just picky. You could use the cars standard loom if you wanted

To do a rebuild properly budget £3k.

My new engine should be back together and car running by the end of the week then I'll post up the final spec.

For those hoping to run 500bhp + do not underestimate what it'll take to do properly - at that level of power, any weakness in the engine will be found and you'll be paying for a new rebuild in no time. It's more than just dropping a new set of pistons in, whacking on a big turbo and running 2bar of boost.

My build will be aiming for 470/470 which will make a very nice road car indeed -just a case of running the engine in then on goes fmic and all the other goodies.....

I wont be Hoping to Run 500bhp... I will be, Once Ive gathered all the parts together lol

I agree with you comments, you cant just throw bits at it and expect it to work, there is more to it than that as anyone who has engine building experience will know.

The Engine in mine now is more than Capable, I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to things like this which is no bad way to be.

The only work I dont do myself is the mapping. I pride myself in the fact I do All the work on my cars myself, so its more of a proper Project to me lol

I wish you luck Rob, just that in these days when every man and his dog seems to have a 500bhp Subaru, I find it laughable that people imagine it's an easy thing to achieve.

I will pretty much guarantee that there'll be much fine tuning and set-backs needed to get to this level reliably.

I'm fortunate in that I've been through the development work already with Mrs D's car so we have a definitive spec to meet our goals.

Depends on what you mean by reliably. If you mean it will be like a standard engine's reliablility (excluding the piston issue !) there is little chance. But I believe its possible to get a few years use before something needs replacing. Time will tell. My initial target was 500+. I think reliability will go down dramatically as BHP increases over about 450 (on a built engine), that's the reason I'm limiting mine to 1.7bar max, hopefully 480.

A few pics of the new arrival....

Spec includes the 18"s, heated seats, privacy glass and Magnaflow exhaust. Not sure on the exhaust trims/surrounds but if i take them off i'm left with the screw holes . Need to sort the suspension next.

Nice motor Tone... Ref the s/steel exhaust trims, Mark (RB5 286) had a nice set of carbon ones that'll hide those nasty holes.

Another point to consider is IM is pratting around regarding owners using non Subaru exhausts...result...no warranty.

Mmm that's a bit of a worry as I was going to get a custom made exhaust made for the wrxd
And next was some decent springs as I get seasick on the twistys
