i aint got a clue rob, i leave it up to the experts and if they say so then i take their word for it, call call subaru assist and its on the back of a lorry 1hr later, hire car sorted within an hour

I have a catback system been on my car for 2 months.
Its 2.5" so no need for a remap.
Straight through center pipe and still quad exit as PPP pipe but each set has its own silencer so its a much nicer noise and breathes easier.
Best sounding Subaru pipe Ive heard and if I still had my car would still be on it!!
Have a butchers on the Haywood and Scott site for some sound files.
It is pretty loud but in a good way ;-)
Offers please cost me £750 ish cant remember only a few months back so sensible offers please.
I have a part worn Dunlop tyre too if anyone needs one got loads of tread on it

Took my car to the garage last week. was rattling on cold start up and had a loss of power, the piston issue has been mentioned but they have done a "snapshot" (anyone know what this is?) and are waiting for the results from subaru uk. hopefully its something else!!!

Compression test would have highlighted this straight away
The saloon looks a bit more mean from the front?
Don't like the rear of the saloon though and personally prefer the hatch.

you had nothing but bad luck with that car. To think you was in two minds till I got mine. Bet you cant wait till they bring the salon over eh so you can trade yours in for one. Gonna stick with my 330s I thinks, as up to now no probs, but will seriously think about the salon but only if they step the power up as I could not go backwards now. When is the CS400 gonna make a show?

The secondary air pump only pumps air for a minute on first starting in a morning or from stone cold & all it does is pump clean air into the exhaust ports on the cylinder head to keep the emissions down on cold start, doesnt really effect performance
update:
just got off phone to technician
he said alternator was fine, just the battery!!!
service all done, no faults found other then.....
yaw control sensor which he is now looking into!!!
oh, and i asked them to do a compression test, they said I have to pay for it as its not under warranty to do that?!?!?!?

I've got a brand spanking new set of 330s rims coming in the next few weeks and am not sure I am going to keep them.
They are 8.5 x 18 with a 55 offset, Lustic Silver
Retail at Subaru is £275 per wheel without tyres, £1100 a set.
I'd be looking at £850 for wheels alone (boxed) or I could put my Dunlops on with a fair amount of tread on for £1000.
Here's a pic of the wheels for those of you who do not know what they look like, please note though that these are not the actual wheels for sale, they are on their way from Subaru so do not have any pictures yet.

Any body shed some light on pistons?
Just had my dealer check what's been done under warranty on my car and amongst some other small things it's had a set of pistons - surprise, surprise!
Being an ex Subaru UK press car I'm wondering if I've been lucky and the replacement pistons are upgraded/forged. Part number for them is 12006AC400. My dealer is unsure what they are as it's not the part number they usually see for replacement pistons apparently.

If they are it does not look good for Subaru, lets put upgraded parts in our own cars so they don't go pop in front of the wrong people and replace like for like in our customer cars.

Out of interest, I wonder how many owners who's cars have gone pop used to switch from i mode to s or s# while on wide open throttle?

I run mine from start up on S# anyway plus map was changed at 1500miles so all should be good!

yeah, grade B forged pistons (prob still 300% stronger than our OEM ones though LOL)

Done some more digging and answered my own question.
Pistons are standard, Grade B. Grade A/Grade B is apparently a sizing thing not quality, thankfully!
Disappointed they're not forged as it would have saved me a fair few quid when the warranty runs out at the end of the year and I want to turn the wick up. Oh well . . . .

Sadly not noisy enough to be forged it would seem.
Out of interest, are all forged pistons noisy or just "drop ins". Was speaking to an engine builder recently who said, if I've picked him up right, that if the bores are honed to exactly the right size for the forged pistons then they're not nearly as noisy as ones that have just been droped into the bores as is.

The OEM hyper cast pistons used have a high silica content that means they do not expand with heat and therefore can run in tighter bores making the engine quieter.
Unforunatley the high slica content makes the pistons brittle and very prone to damage from pre detonation.
This is why you must run 99ron petrol in these cars or there is a risk of det and ringland failure.
