Hi guys
Yeh I've been speaking to Iain over the past couple of days (very helpful as always) to get the work sorted for my car before the meet.
I only live an hour and a quarter from them, so I thought I'd head over and get my work sorted before the meet so the ramps would be free for people traveling from further afield who only want to make the journey once

I'm pretty much decided that I'm going for the £765 Handling kit:
Up-rated rear anti roll bar
Revised steering feel
4 Wheel laser alignment with fast road settings
As per the fast pack but adds
Revised sub frame and chassis bush kit
Rear anti roll bar mount supports
Anti lift and Caster kit
Labour to install
Plus front lip spoiler @ £319 and a Cossie Panel Filter which will save me a whopping £170 over normal prices, thanks to the discount. Still means that the *ahem* conservatory fund will take a bit of a kicking though, but then you can't hang the rear end of glass house out can you?
Just taken delivery of my track day tyres (Toyo R888s) in readiness for the Evo Trackday at Bedford on the 21st. Was hoping to have the Litchfield tweaks on by then, but I'm out of time. Still will be interesting to be able to compare the stock set up with the revised one over the course of the season.
Cheers

Paul that Litchfield rear bar should be the 22mm version. I spoke to Iain at Litcho about the anti roll bars setup and he said he would not recommend uprating the front as it counter acted the effect of upgrading the rear. Stiffening the rear roll bar will help to induce more oversteer as the front/rear ratio has changed. If you then stiffen the front aswell the ratio becomes the same, or very close to orriginal again. Just some food for thought.
Does depend on how you want it to feel tho. You could probably set the front to the soft setting to increase the ratio. I'm sure there are many opinions on this but I thought Litchfield probably knew better than me so I'm rolling with that.

The video says they lapped within half a second so the suspension on that has nearly made up the 40-50 bhp difference in the cars.

I have a 24mm front arb and 22mm rear arb on mine (along with everything else Whiteline do for the 2008 STI and Tein lowering springs)...running a lot of negative camber in the Geo as well
Found having the rear arb only made the car unsettled/snappy at the rear on big fast sweeping bends, much happier now the front arb has been done, more of a neutral feel and/or 4 wheel drift instead of pronounced oversteer or understeer if that makes sense, just a personal thing, but that's the way I like my scoobs to handle...

I'm not worried about losing mine just fed up of everyone driving into me! Some kind soul has now scuffed my rear bumper as well as the front! Never had a problem with any of my other scoobs but this one is getting ridiculous - is it the dark colour?

Do you have the KCA335s, rubber top mounts that give extra camber and caster?

No mate, thought about fitting those (and others), but James at GRD has cheeky little trick that allows him to wind on a load more camber than normal without them
P.S. Don't fit the Whilteline ALK, the bushes fail, having to change mine over to Powerflex

Parked mine at the far end of the car park miles away from anybody else and sure enough a nice scrape has appeared on front wing. Not happy!!

I was thinking more about maxing the caster than camber. Don't like lots of camber as it gives you issues with lots of things.

New Exhaust
Finally the exhaust is done
Seems like it took forever. I had intended on taking more photos of it but time was slipping and many late nights were spent at work trying to get it finished, one became an early morning
I remade the cat pipe, centre pipe and backbox.
The cat pipe has a s/steel flange cut to marry the end of the down pipe. The original tube was 2 1/2" in diameter but was made from quite thick steel. I have remade it in 20swg (0.9mm) thick 304 s/steel and kept the original diameter. At the end of the cat pipe where it joins the centre pipe I have done away with the sprung ball joint and used male/female rings with V band clamps. Also this pipe needed a bracket to hard mount it to the diff casing and a lambda sensor boss.
Reduced: 98% of original size [ 1024 x 768 ] - Click to view full image
The centre pipe was made from 60mm tube. This I have upped to 2 1/2" (63.5mm) and again made it from 0.9mm wall tube. I replaced the ball joint with a v band clamp which is a solid joint so to introduce some flexibility back into the system I have a s/steel braided flexi section. Then it runs down the car in the original tunnel, however I managed to get it a little higher than the stock one. This was helped by the fact that my centre pipe enters the backbox in the centre instead of over to one side like the original Prodrive. There is another v band clamp just before the backbox.
The backbox is also made from 0.9mm sheet, but where the centre pipe enters it there is a doubler made from 1.2mm sheet to reinforce this area. Is is cut in the shape of a "splat" to reduce the risk of vibration cracking and is the same for the "flower" which is welded around the lambda boss sensor.
The backbox has s/steel perf tube inside. They are merged at the side where the centre pipe enters and then split off to each side of the box. This part is 60mm tube. Then there is another bend out of the box to the tail pipes where it cones up to the tail pipe size of 3 1/2". This is the same size as the Prodrive box I took off. I have only made a single tail pipe exit each side as that was quicker and I didn't know if it would even sound ok I can change this at a later date if I wish but I thought I'd see how the single looks.

So it was all finished the other week on a friday night and the sound................ well it was exactly what I hoped for. I sounds pretty stock on tick over and if you just tickling around it is still quite subtle, tho it does sound more meaty still. Then when you open her up there is a nice flat four rumble and a bit of a bark too. On coast there are some pops too, but again not all the time and quite subtle. Thats exactly what I was after.
Inside you can hear it a lot better and it has got rid of the really annoying bass drone that it had. All round winner
Any thoughts on the tail pipes?? Here is the original

Great job mate. I like the twin pipes and think they sit well.
I am happy with the looks of my PPP back box but would love some more noise. Springs make quiet a difference as well so good choice.
Next project for you is modifying prodrive box to make more noise !!!!

The easiest first step to getting some more noise is to cut out the resinator ( or the mid box) you have. That's what I did first. Then just replaced it with some straight tube. That will give the car a far more barkier noise and give you a bit more impreza rumble. But I found that prodrive box is very deep and droney and removing the mid box did not fix it enough. Also it was still not quite loud enough and you couldn't hear it inside the car as much as I wanted. Don't get me wrong I don't like really loud exhausts like kev on his saxo, so the exhaust I have made can still be very subtle but just enough to know your there, then when she is opened up it gets a little more fruity
Here is a video of the sound without any silencer and then with just the mid box removed, my first attempt. It sounds louder in this vid than in reality
YouTube - Subaru Impreza sti 330S MY09 type UK exhaust test
I looked at modifying my existing prodrive box when it came to making my exhaust as like the look of it aswell, but the layout was not really suited to what I wanted. Also I wanted to be able to return the exhaust to standard if necessary. So it was easier to make a new back box.
I could quite easily make jigs from my exhaust and then reproduce it for people if they were interested?? You would need all three parts, the cat pipe, centre pipe and back box. It would be best to do it as an offical job through where I work so you have some recourse and are not dealing with some random guy off the net. Our company is a motorsport subcontractor, we specialise in machineing and welding/fabrication. I make racing exhaust for a living so you would be getting a hand made top quality product.
Cheers

Thanks for the info . I did remove the centre section resonator some time back and yes this did add a little more character. Like you i am not looking to wake up all the neighbours but the Prodrive system is just a little too quiet for my tastes.
For now i can live with the Prodrive box but may talk to you towards the end of the year about my options

If you fit a decat down pipe you will deffo want a remap! The amount of restriction in a cat is rediculous and this will make a massive difference to the amount of back pressure in your exhaust system which will change the fueling settings etc. I'm sure it would still run, but you would not be getting the full benifit of the mod and may end up causing engine damage.
Oh and there are no other cats in the system other than the down pipe, so not sure what you mean there

Hi Ben
I could be interested in a box from your firm, was thinking H&S but not sure as there's is not that cheap (mind you not sure how much yours would be as looks quality), I'd want catback though and was thiniking of getting a deresonated tornado center section so if you could fab up a box that bolts up to that pop me a pm, and quad pipes!

I mean the cat after the down pipe, the short pipe before the center section. I thought there was 3 CATS, 1 in the up pipe 1 in the down pipe and the CAT pipe. I wondered if I could remove the cat pipe and fit one like this Impreza Turbo 2008 on : Subaru Impreza 2008 Exhaust Cat Pipe I would not need to remap.

Hi Guys
Ok, thinking about exhaust and was initially thinking H&S however found a few Hatch's runing a Magnaflow system on NASIOC and wondered what everyones thoughts were. Build quality looks ok, not up there with H&S but it is pretty resonable and sounds good too, my only concerm is its not as straight a sytem as H&S but I do not know how much of an issue that is with regards to gas flow?
Heres some pics from the net.
