My baby cousin's just finished building his Dax, and he's put a ported V8 from a TVR 350 in it...
They've had to de-tune it... just to make it drivable... scares the b'jesus out of me..fishtailing in a straight line..in the dry.. in 4th...

I'd agree, you simply don't need fat gobs of torque in one of these cars, they don't have the rear end grip for it anyway.
Of course, that doesn't stop people putting Cosworth turbo engines in them - and it doesn't mean I'd say 'no' to one of the 3.9 litre V8's they do either

What I mean is, that even though there are a few grams of protection in these "cars" I feel safer in a Kart or Formula type vehicle!
At least it seems like you wont lose your head so easily, or get tossed out like a dry turd!

My mate with the Atom admitted that although on a dry, smooth, predictable track any Scoob would be left wanting, out in the real world on UK A/B roads, his old Scoob was usually quicker. The light weight made it difficult to apply power at to maximise any given corners potential when you add in camber, undulation, weather, surface contamination/degradation etc and even doffed his cap to a diesel Fabia like mine whom stuck with him over Snake Pass. He is by no means a poor driver either, in fact amongst the fastest I've known, but the Scoob's weight, chassis, suspension and 4WD make them amazing at coping with what the real world's roads throw at you for even average drivers. You have to be good to drive any of these light-weight RWD missiles at speed, and death is very near when anywhere near the edge.

My sports racer was a good bit lighter than a Westfield and when I turbocharged the 1300 BDA engine I was getting 265 BHP at 11500 rpm. That used to accelerate pretty well too!

Yep, sounded great - this was back before the era of easily available Lancer Evos and Subarus etc ( early 90s ) so there wasn't much quicker on the roads round here. Could scare a few big bikes as well
