My dad used to get the nice man that, in those days filled the tank, to give it a few pumps from the squirty can. All his engines never missed a beat & returned good mpg & had low oil consumption.

If my car is sitting for 5 weeks at a a time would you recommend removing the crank sensor before starting it for the first time?

On my car, the engine will not start if you crank it with the accelerator floored.
It is a feature designed to deal with flooded engines and means I don't have to disconnect any sensors.
Why not give it a go when your engine is warm to see if it works on yours.
